Thousands demonstrated on Wednesday night in Jerusalem, demanding that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu resign following the indictments against him for bribery, fraud and breach of trust. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. The demonstrators gathered in front of Netanyahu's residence, then marched on King George Street toward Zion Square. Hundreds of marchers blocked the light rail route on Jaffa Street using chairs and tables from local cafes. The police used cavalry and water spray to disperse the demonstration, and one demonstrator was injured. Police said the train was back in operation. The protesters attacked a man suspected of being an undercover police officer, and he was evacuated by ambulance for medical treatment at a hospital. After the demonstration was dispersed in the city center, the demonstrators returned to demonstrate in front of the prime minister's residence, and clashes broke out with police. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.
Last night, hundreds of angry residents also demonstrated at the entrance to Beitar Illit. They demanded compensation for the days when they were banned from going to work. The quarantine imposed on Beitar Illit will be lifted this morning. This was agreed yesterday in a conversation between the director general of the Ministry of Health, Hezi Levy, and Mayor Meir Rubinstein. The mayor has pledged to continue to make every effort to maintain the directives of the Ministry of Health in order to clarify the reduction of morbidity in Beit Illit, including the evacuation of patients from the city.
Last night, members of the "Scouts" held a rally in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv and protest vigils in one hundred and sixty points around the country. They protested the intention to ban their activities
Scout Movement Secretary Kali Cohen said last night that youth movements have always remained, even in times of crisis and emergency. He called on the Minister of Higher Education Elkin to act to prevent the cuts in the budgets of the movements and to allow their activities to continue.
Our correspondent, Liran Hojhinoff, reports that the members of the "Working and Learning Youth" also held protest vigils around the country last night.
A demonstration, which took place at the same time in Charles Clore Park in Tel Aviv, was held to mark nine years of social protest. About 400 people participated. Daphne Leaf, who initiated the protest in the summer of 2011 and also organized this rally, said: "We are only at the beginning of a huge crisis, and it is clear that there is no leadership to expect solutions from. Power to bring solutions and change. "
On Tuesday morning, police and inspectors from the Jerusalem municipality evacuated about 30 demonstrators from a protest tent set up in front of the prime minister's residence. The demonstrators claimed that violence had been used against them and said that 50 YSM personnel attacked them without presenting a court sign. Five demonstrators were lightly injured in the clashes and were treated by MDA teams who were called to the scene. One of them was taken to the hospital.
One of the evicted protesters, Roi Peleg, told Ynet in an interview: "I personally pulled out a knife. You can see the blood. There is a man here who is rushed to hospital with a fear of a broken arm. The videos clearly show people falling to the floor when inspectors pulled the equipment."
Earlier in the day, protesters were evacuated on the grounds that the demonstration had become an "outpost" and disrupted public order. "The demonstration that was approved for several hours actually became a clinging to the ground," the municipality said. "This, using fixed elements such as a kitchen, generator, tents, fences and elements which all created a permanent establishment in the middle of the street and in the heart of a residential neighborhood. All of these caused many nuisances which necessitated proportionate action of evacuating the fixed elements."
