The representatives of the state and the teachers' union signed the new employment agreement with the teachers' union on the night between Wednesday and Thursday, which will include, among other things, an increase in teachers' salaries already now and a change in the vacation schedule starting next year.
Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that "I am happy that at the end of lengthy negotiations we were able to sign a salary agreement that will increase teachers' salaries by tens of percent, will give managers managerial flexibility, will give teachers the option to reward excellence, investment, and achievements and not just according to seniority, and will synchronize vacation days between those of the students to those of the parents."
The Minister of Education, Yifat Shasha Biton, added that "the signing of the salary agreement comes after a long and intensive process that took place over the past year. We can certainly say 'we have lived.' The students and parents. The agreement strengthens the personnel system that has experienced a deep crisis in recent years. The agreement is significant for the long term, essential to the system and strengthens the personnel system that has reached a deep crisis in recent years."
Secretary General of the Teachers' Union Yaffe Ben David said that "the salary agreement we brought is a huge achievement for the working public of teaching workers in Israel, who are finally receiving recognition and appreciation from the state for their important work and their contribution to Israeli society. This is only the first step in restoring the status of female and male teaching staff."
The final wording, on which jurists worked, was submitted for final approval by the legal advisor to the government, Gali Beharve-Miara. Among other things, the salary increases for the veteran teachers were discussed once again, but the Ministry of Finance stated that no changes were made to the agreement reached by the parties the day before the start of the school year. Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman was also informed that kindergarten teachers are demanding an improvement in their salary based on the agreement with the teachers.
The main points of the agreement: a beginning teacher will earn NIS 9,000 and another NIS 1,100 will be transferred to each teaching staff. A teacher will receive a persistence grant of NIS 10,000 after three years in the education system. 7,500 specialist teachers will be recruited under individual contracts. A beginning manager will earn NIS 19,000.
