U.S. President Donald Trump said the ongoing war with Iran is unlikely to end this week but predicted that the conflict would conclude in the near future as military pressure on Tehran intensifies.
Speaking to reporters and in public statements, Trump said the joint campaign led by the United States and Israel had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities.
“The war will not end this week,” Trump said. “But it will end soon.”
According to the president, continued military operations are intended to force Iran to abandon its regional military activities and halt attacks against American and allied targets in the Middle East.
Warning Over Possible Disruption of Strait of Hormuz
Trump also issued a strong warning regarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
The U.S. president warned that any Iranian attempt to disrupt shipping or block the waterway would trigger a severe military response.
“If Iran touches the Strait of Hormuz or threatens global shipping routes, the response will be overwhelming,” Trump said, adding that the United States and its allies would ensure the waterway remains open to international commerce.
Security officials have expressed growing concern that Tehran could attempt to target commercial vessels or energy infrastructure in the region as the conflict escalates.
Revolutionary Guards Respond With Defiant Message
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responded to Trump’s remarks with a warning of its own, saying Iran would defend its territorial waters and regional interests.
In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the Guards said any attempt by the United States or its allies to threaten Iran or impose restrictions in the Persian Gulf would be met with retaliation.
“The Islamic Republic can protect its sovereignty and its strategic waterways,” the statement said.
The Revolutionary Guards added that Iran would not yield to pressure or threats and accused Washington of escalating tensions across the region.
Strategic Waterway at Center of Regional Tensions
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, linking the Persian Gulf with global markets.
Any disruption to shipping traffic in the narrow passage could have major consequences for international energy supplies and global markets.
Military analysts say both Iran and Western forces have increased their presence in the area in recent days, raising concerns that the strategic chokepoint could become a focal point of the conflict if the war continues to escalate.
