The Israel Defense Forces announced Thursday evening that Captain Eitan Shmuel Lamberg, 21, from Moshav Masheva HaShiv’a, was killed in combat in southern Lebanon after an anti-tank missile struck an IDF tank operating in the area.
Lamberg served as an armored corps officer in Battalion 75 of the “Storm of the Golan” formation.
ANTI-TANK ATTACK NORTH OF THE LITANI
According to the IDF, the incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. when a militant fired an anti-tank guided missile at a tank belonging to the Golani Brigade combat team operating north of the Litani River.
Following the strike, Captain Lamberg was killed. The military did not immediately release additional operational details.
ISRAELI RETALIATION STRIKES
Shortly after the attack, Israeli forces launched air and artillery strikes targeting infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah in the area.
The IDF said the strikes were aimed at degrading militant capabilities and responding to the deadly ambush.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed deep condolences following the announcement of Lamberg’s death.
“Our hearts ache over the fall of Armored Corps officer Captain Eitan Shmuel Lamberg, who fell in battle in southern Lebanon,” Netanyahu said. “He was a brave commander who led his soldiers on the front line to protect the security of Israel.”
Defense Minister Israel Katz also paid tribute, describing Lamberg as a courageous officer who led his troops “with bravery and determination in the campaign against the terrorist organization Hezbollah.”
ONGOING CASUALTIES IN NORTHERN FRONT
The announcement comes just days after the IDF confirmed the death of Captain Dr. Uri Yosef Silvester, a battalion physician who was killed in southern Lebanon when two explosive drones struck an armored vehicle in a separate incident near the Beaufort area.
In that attack, additional soldiers were wounded, including two officers and a soldier in serious condition, with others sustaining moderate and light injuries. All wounded personnel were evacuated to hospitals in Israel, and their families were notified.
ESCALATING DRONE AND MISSILE WARFARE
The latest incident highlights the continuing intensity of cross-border fighting, with anti-tank missiles, drones, and indirect fire increasingly shaping the battlefield between Israel and Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon.
Military officials say the northern front remains highly volatile despite ongoing operational activity and retaliatory strikes aimed at militant infrastructure.
