Minister of Economy and Industry Eli Cohen and British Trade Minister Liam Fox signed a trade and partnership agreement between Israel and Britain, which regulates the continuity of trade relations between the two countries prior to Britain's departure from the European Union.
Minister Fuchs' arrival at the signing ceremony attests to the importance of business relations between the two countries and to London's satisfaction with the tightening of trade relations. The British Ambassador to Israel David Curry and the Head of the Foreign Trade Administration at the Ministry of Economy and Industry, Ohad Cohen, also participated in the signing ceremony
The volume of trade between Israel and Britain, Israel's largest trade partner in Europe, stood at about $ 11 billion in 2018, an increase of 15% compared to 2017.
British Trade Minister Liam Fuchs said: "Britain and Israel are stronger than ever, with record trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, which will allow British and Israeli businesses, exporters and consumers to continue to trade freely and with full confidence while Britain is preparing to leave the EU. We look forward to further strengthening trade and investment relations between the two countries while continuing to work together in the future "
Minister of Economy and Industry, Eli Cohen: "Britain is one of Israel's largest and most important trading partners, and the fact that Israel is one of the first countries to reach an agreement on a trade continuity agreement for the day after the Berkazit demonstrates the mutual importance that the countries attach to the economic ties between them. Will ensure that trade between the two sides will continue to exist on the same terms as it is today and that trade and mutual investment growth, as recorded in recent years, will continue even after the UK's withdrawal from the EU. "The Ministry of Economy and Industry continues to look after the interests of Israeli companies around the world"
The agreement between Israel and the UK is based on the existing contractual framework between Israel and the EU and aims to preserve the continuity of certainty for exporters on both sides, and to ensure that the trade between the parties continues under the same conditions as it currently exists under the agreement with the EU.
Britain is Israel's largest trading partner in Europe and the third in the world and is an important partner of Israel in the international community. The volume of trade between Israel and Britain in 2018 was about $ 11 billion, a 15% increase compared to the volume of trade in 2017. Between 2015 and 2018, the volume of trade between the two countries increased slightly.
