A stabbing attack took place this evening (Tuesday) in the bustling Nahalat Binyamin area of Tel Aviv, leaving four people injured. According to initial reports, a terrorist pulled out a knife and began attacking passersby in two separate locations within proximity.
The victims included a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both of whom were in moderate condition, and two others, aged 24 and 59, who sustained lighter injuries. Emergency medical teams quickly arrived and transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
Following the attack, Police Commissioner Danny Levy arrived at the scene and confirmed that they had identified one terrorist, though investigations are ongoing to explore any possible accomplices. "We are investigating where he came from and additional possibilities," Levy stated, adding that reports of a black motorcycle being seen near the scene were being examined.
Levy confirmed that three IDF soldiers, who were in a building nearby, responded swiftly to the situation after hearing the screams of bystanders. The soldiers, armed and ready, ran to the scene and successfully neutralized the terrorist on the spot. The police arrived shortly after in large numbers, conducting thorough searches in the area to ensure no additional attackers were involved.
Terrorist Identified as Moroccan-American
The suspect in the stabbing has been identified as Kadi Abdel Aziz, a Moroccan-born tourist who also holds American residency. Initial investigations suggest he entered Israel earlier this week, and authorities are now working to determine the full details of his movements and intentions.
Witnesses in the area described a scene of confusion and terror as the attack unfolded. Yael, who was dining at a nearby restaurant with her son, recounted when the attack began: "Suddenly we heard chairs and tables overturning. They said someone was stabbing people. There were screams everywhere, and we saw the injured. I was afraid he was coming to stab me next. We would have been hit if we had been sitting in the wrong place."
Another eyewitness described hearing gunshots and seeing people fleeing in panic. "We heard a burst of gunshots, we saw people running, and then we ran to the bathroom. We went out for a moment to see if it was a motorcycle noise, and then we heard another burst of gunfire. We ran to the nearby shelter. In the meantime, we heard many vehicles."
Michal Rosenstein, the mayor of Kiryat Ono, who witnessed the attack, recalled: "Suddenly we heard shots, and people were lying on the floor. Glass was flying everywhere."
Terrorist Neutralized in Seconds
The rapid response of security forces, coupled with the actions of the soldiers on the scene, ensured that the attacker was neutralized quickly. Ran, another eyewitness, told Maariv: "We were sitting in a cafe, and the incident occurred at the end of the street. Suddenly there was a loud burst of gunfire, and then someone screamed ‘attack.’ We all ran into the kitchen to hide. There was hysteria, and people were afraid to come out. One of the people said it was a stabbing attack, and what we heard was shooting at the terrorist. A friend of mine said he saw two people lying on the floor."
According to another witness, Yaron, the attack began at a nearby wine bar, where the terrorist reportedly stabbed a man in the neck. "About a minute later, shots were heard from the direction of Gruzenberg Street, approximately 100-150 meters away. I arrived at the scene and the terrorist was already lying on the floor, neutralized."
Another Stabbing Incident in Tel Aviv Just Days Ago
This attack comes just three days after a stabbing incident in Levontin Street, not far from the scene of today’s attack. In that incident, a terrorist attacked a civilian, stabbing him seriously. The terrorist, Salah Yahya, a 19-year-old from Tulkarm in Samaria, was shot and killed on the spot by a passerby who had a licensed weapon. The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to Ichilov Hospital in serious condition, while his friend described the scene: "My friend was stabbed in the face."
Police Continue Investigations
The police have now ruled out the possibility of additional accomplices or another coordinated attack in either incident. Investigations into the suspects’ backgrounds and the circumstances surrounding the attacks are ongoing. Security measures in Tel Aviv and surrounding areas have been heightened, and authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant.
The recent series of attacks in Tel Aviv has raised significant concerns about security in the city, especially in light of the ongoing tensions in the region. Both the stabbing attacks and the quick police response highlight the challenges Israeli security forces face in preventing such incidents while also responding rapidly to neutralize threats. As the investigation into today’s attack continues, authorities are working to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the city.
