Another disaster in the Gaza Strip: Sergeant Zur Avraham was killed on Sunday and three other fighters were seriously and moderately injured, after the building he was searching collapsed in part after an explosive device was activated. Also, the name of Sergeant Shalom Menachem who fell in the NMR disaster in Rafah was allowed to be published.
A preliminary investigation shows that a force of the Nahal Brigade was active in a broken neighborhood in Rafah. When they entered one of the houses to search it, the fighters noticed a gap in a hidden tunnel in one of the rooms. The fighters approached the shaft and then an explosion occurred. It is estimated that a chain of charges trapped the shaft and part of the building. As a result Four fighters were injured by the explosion and the collapse of part of the building.
IDF medical teams rushed to rescue the victims. The death of one of the fighters was determined on the ground, another seriously wounded fighter received life-saving treatment and he was evacuated along with the two moderately wounded fighters by Air Force helicopters to the hospital in the center of the country.
Yesterday in the early hours of the morning, eight fighters from the 601st Battalion of the Combat Engineering were killed in the explosion of a Nimara in the Tel Sultan neighborhood of Rafah. The IDF is investigating whether the Nimara was hit by an explosion of a ventral charge or a charge attached to the side of the vessel. Another possibility that is being examined is that a malfunction in the explosives carried by the vehicle caused the explosion. This is a built-up area in the luxury neighborhood of Rafah with spacious villas, the level of development in the streets is high and it includes roads and sidewalks with interlocking stones. The IDF's armored convoy is moving through the streets, at the moment it is not clear, with a "Dubi" (D-9 bulldozer) at the head of the convoy, whose job it is to dismantle the road to prevent the activation of "ventricle" charges. At the head of the convoy was the vehicle of the battalion commander and the NMR that was hit was moving fifth or sixth in the column. During the drive a huge explosion was heard which caused the NMR to explode and catch fire. The vessel was extremely badly damaged and it took time to extinguish the fire and approach the vessel. All the occupants of the vessel, eight fighters of the Combat Engineering Corps, were killed on the spot. On the sides of the vessel from the outside there were large amounts of explosive material that included building explosives, mines and more. The IDF says that the charges are on the sides of the vehicle from the outside so that if an explosion of these explosives occurs it should not harm the fighters in the fighting compartment of the engineering armored vehicle.
