Captain Uri Yosef Silvester, 30, a military physician serving with the Givati Brigade, was killed Monday in a drone strike in southern Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces announced. Two officers and a soldier were seriously wounded in the same incident, while another soldier sustained moderate injuries.

Silvester's death brings the number of Israeli soldiers killed since the beginning of the current round of fighting on the northern front to 27. Four civilians have also been killed during the campaign.

Expressed Hope for an End to the Cycle of War

In a social media post published in October, following the release of 20 living hostages from Gaza and the declaration of the end of the war there, Silvester reflected on the emotional toll of the conflict that began on October 7.

He wrote that the accumulated trauma and loss had disrupted people's ability to experience emotions normally, expressing hope that Israeli society would begin a process of healing and eventually "break the cycle of wars in Israel" and enter a period of lasting peace and prosperity.

Silvester is survived by his wife, parents, and two sisters, Ron and Maya. He studied medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and grew up in the settlement of Beit Aryeh. Local council head Sharon Alfasi said the community was mourning alongside the family.

Sergeant Adam Tsarfati Killed in Separate Drone Strike

Earlier Monday, Staff Sergeant Adam Tsarfati, 20, from Rosh HaAyin, was killed in a separate drone attack in southern Lebanon.

Tsarfati served as a combat soldier in the elite Maglan reconnaissance unit. Three soldiers were wounded in the incident, including one seriously and two lightly. All were evacuated to hospital for treatment.

The eldest son of Mally and Shay Tsarfati, he had been active in the Israeli Scouts youth movement and studied at Begin High School in his hometown. He was laid to rest Monday in Rosh HaAyin.

Sergeant Michael Tyukin Buried

On Saturday, Staff Sergeant Michael Tyukin, 21, from Ashkelon, was killed when a drone exploded in southern Lebanon.

A fighter in the Givati Reconnaissance Unit, Tyukin was the only son of his mother and immigrated to Israel from Ukraine in 2020. Although he was not required to serve in a combat role, he volunteered for frontline military service.

Four soldiers sustained light injuries in the attack. Tyukin was buried Monday in Ashkelon.

Growing Concern Over Drone Threat

The three fatalities within a span of days have renewed attention on the growing threat posed by armed and explosive-laden drones operating over the Lebanese front. Despite ongoing defensive efforts, drone attacks have emerged as one of the most challenging threats facing Israeli forces in the current campaign.

Israeli military officials continue to investigate the incidents while assessing additional measures to improve protection against low-flying unmanned aerial systems operating near frontline positions.
