In the center of the Gaza Strip, two reservists were killed yesterday by mortar bombs fired by terrorists at an IDF force that was securing an important axis. In the incident, Sergeant Major Omar Samadja (25) and Colonel Saadia Deri were killed.

In a solemn ceremony at the military cemetery in Netanya, Israel bid farewell to two fallen soldiers, Sergeant Major Omar Samadja and Sergeant Saadia Deri, who were laid to rest amidst profound grief and heartfelt tributes.

 Omar Samadja Remembered for Dedication

Sergeant Major Omar Samadja, hailing from Magnot Hadar, was honored at his funeral attended by dignitaries including Minister of Transportation Miri Regev, MK Eli Dellal, Mayor of Netanya Miriam Fierberg, and regional council heads Eli Aton and Galit Shaul. Amidst tears and poignant memories, IDF representative Major Daniel Hazot paid tribute, highlighting Omar's dedication and sacrifice. Omar, the son of Olympic medalist and national judo coach Oren Samadja, was eulogized by his father as a hero who served bravely until the end.

Mother Liat's Heartbreaking Farewell 

In a heartbreaking farewell, Liat Samadja, Omar's mother, expressed disbelief and sorrow over the loss of her beloved son. She recounted Omar's unwavering commitment to his service in Golani's 51st Battalion, emphasizing his bravery and sense of duty. Despite the pain, she urged her son's comrades to continue their mission, ensuring Omar's sacrifice was not in vain.

Rom, Omar's brother, shared a touching eulogy recounting their cherished memories and brotherly bond. He reminisced about their playful moments and Omar's relentless determination, promising to honor his memory with love and admiration.

Yael Arad Pays Tribute

Yael Arad, chairman of the Israeli Olympic Committee, extended condolences, acknowledging Omar's valor and sacrifice in service to the country. She conveyed solidarity and support to the Samadja family, emphasizing the nation's gratitude for his courage.

Saadia Deri Remembered for Kindness 

In another part of Israel, hundreds gathered to mourn Sergeant Saadia Deri, 27, from Tel Aviv, at his funeral attended by Minister of the Interior Moshe Arbel, Minister of Health Uriel Bosso, and other dignitaries. IDF representative Lt. Col. Yedidia Dagani Spade spoke of Saadia's humility and leadership, describing him as a beloved commander and friend.

Chaim Deri, Saadia's father, remembered his son's dual nature as a scholar and warrior, praising his gentle demeanor and profound wisdom. He spoke of Saadia's commitment to his family and community, highlighting his dedication to Torah study and military service.

Mother Leli's Call for Victory 

Leli Deri, Saadia's mother, passionately called for national strength and resolve in the wake of her son's sacrifice. She demanded victory over the enemy as a fitting tribute to Saadia's bravery and commitment to defending Israel.

Rabbi Eliyahu Mali, head of the Jaffa yeshiva where Saadia studied, recalled his student's infectious optimism and devotion to his family. He celebrated Saadia's life as a devoted husband and father, impacting all who knew him.
