Haniyeh also referred to the negotiations for the hostage deal and said: "The enemy believes that by attacking the families of leaders, he will make us soften the demands of our people. Anyone who believes that killing my sons will force Hamas to change its position is delusional." Haniyeh added that his sons and grandsons "are martyrs on the way to the liberation of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque", and emphasized that "their blood is not redder than the blood of the Palestinian people".

In an official statement, Hamas accused Israel of the deaths of Haniyeh's sons and grandsons, and said that it "took advantage of the holiday visit (Eid al-Fitr - 38) and massacred them." The main criticism of them is that they earn large sums of money thanks to being the sons of the Haniyeh. One of them, Muad, was severely criticized for leaving for Turkey and even received a Turkish passport so that he could move around easily. During the war, an IDF spokesman published a receipt in Arabic that he says indicates that one of Haniyeh's sons purchased jewelry for tens of thousands of shekels.
