In a major development, Israeli and foreign sources indicate that a significant hostage release operation may be executed within the next few days. Negotiations have been ongoing between Israel and Hamas, and sources familiar with the discussions suggest the possibility of this operation taking place "within two days, maybe even less," contingent on the progress of talks with the militant group.

The exact number of hostages to be released and their identities remain uncertain. Both Israel and Qatar have been working to secure the release of all kidnapped citizens without Israel having to make concessions in return. This is the preferred plan currently on the table, though Israeli sources have cautioned that it might not be a guaranteed outcome. There is a chance that not all kidnapped citizens will be released, and some form of payment or concession may be necessary.

As part of potential gestures, Israel might be required to release female security prisoners, elderly prisoners, and those with medical conditions. Additionally, humanitarian aid, including fuel, may be permitted to expand into the Gaza Strip. Israel could implement these measures either directly or indirectly.

Hamas previously described the release of abductees Yehudit and Nathalie Ra'anan as a unilateral move. However, an Israeli official noted that the subsequent opening of the Rafah crossing for humanitarian supplies was a gesture made in exchange for this release.

The urgency of completing this operation is underscored by Israel's concerns about being drawn into the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, which could complicate the hostage release.

Hamas, on its part, appears to be motivated to reduce the number of hostages in its custody. If all hostages are not released, the group may prioritize foreign workers, women, children, the elderly, or those with medical issues for release.

In response to these developments, the Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani, expressed hope for a potential breakthrough leading to the release of the hostages. He also criticized Israel, condemning what he termed a "policy of collective punishment" in Gaza. The Qatari Prime Minister drew attention to the high number of children killed in Gaza, emphasizing the need for international attention to the situation.

The situation remains fluid, and further updates will follow as negotiations progress.
