IDF Imposes Movement Restrictions across the West Bank following three terrorist attacks

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have significantly tightened security measures across the West Bank following three terrorist attacks within little more than 24 hours, including a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of two Israeli soldiers.

The military has established extensive checkpoints, roadblocks, and movement restrictions throughout the region as part of an intensified counterterrorism campaign aimed at preventing additional attacks and dismantling terrorist networks.

Extensive Security Measures Implemented

According to Palestinian reports, Israeli forces closed dozens of entrances, roads, and crossings in northern West Bank cities, including the areas of Nablus, Salfit, Qalqilya, and Tubas.

Additional restrictions were reported in several villages and towns, resulting in heavy traffic congestion and significant disruptions to daily movement. Areas surrounding Jerusalem also experienced delays due to increased security checks and road closures.

The IDF confirmed that, following a fresh security assessment, forces have established checkpoints and inspection points at the exits of cities and villages across the Central Command area while imposing a security closure around the city of Nablus.

Counterterrorism Operations Expanded

The enhanced security measures followed an operation by the elite Duvdevan Unit, which arrested two suspected terrorists connected to Friday's attack while they were reportedly inside a hospital in Nablus.

Israeli forces, together with Border Police units, have since expanded operations throughout the West Bank, including the Jordan Valley, conducting searches, intelligence-gathering activities, and additional security operations in multiple villages.

A senior military official said the measures are intended to monitor movements across the area and prevent copycat attacks following the recent wave of violence.

"Preventing further escalation is one of our primary operational objectives," the official said. "These steps are necessary to reduce the likelihood of additional terrorist attacks."

U.S. Embassy Issues Security Alert

Amid the deteriorating security situation, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem announced temporary travel restrictions for all U.S. government employees and their family members traveling privately to the West Bank.

The embassy said the directive took immediate effect and will remain in force through Sunday unless extended.

The advisory cited heightened security concerns and increased instability in the West Bank, urging American citizens to remain vigilant, avoid demonstrations and areas with heavy security deployments, and follow local authorities' instructions.

Three Attacks Within 24 Hours

The latest security crackdown follows three terrorist attacks that occurred within just over a day.

On Friday morning, Major Yuval Ezra and Master Sgt. (Res.) Benyahu Melet were killed in a shooting attack near the village of Tel.

Earlier, Itamar Cohen, one of the founders of several agricultural communities in the West Bank, was stabbed near Alon Moreh while helping extinguish a fire in the area. An armed civilian at the scene fatally shot both attackers.

Hours later, another stabbing attack in northern Samaria left one person wounded before Israeli forces neutralized the assailant.

Military Reinforcements Ordered

Following Friday's deadly shooting, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held a security assessment with the commander of Central Command and the head of the Operations Directorate.

He ordered substantial reinforcements throughout the West Bank to strengthen security, protect civilians, and locate all individuals involved in the attacks.

The IDF said operations continue in several locations, including Beit Furik and Tubas, where large-scale counterterrorism activities are underway.

Israeli Leadership Announces Additional Measures

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz convened an emergency consultation with senior security officials and members of the Security Cabinet following the attacks.

After the meeting, the government announced a series of additional security measures, including:

• The demolition of the residence belonging to the terrorist responsible for Friday's deadly shooting.
• Expanded military operations in communities identified as terrorist strongholds.
• Increased weapons seizures and intelligence operations.
• Revocation of work permits for individuals deemed to pose security risks.
• Reinforcement of IDF forces across the West Bank.
• Additional road separations and checkpoints to improve civilian security.
• Acceleration of the authorization of existing Israeli agricultural outposts and the establishment of new ones.

Heightened Alert Continues

The IDF remains on its highest level of alert throughout the West Bank as security forces continue efforts to prevent further attacks and restore stability following one of the most intense periods of violence in recent months.

Military officials said operations will continue as long as necessary to address the evolving security threats and protect Israeli civilians and security personnel.
