On Friday, the Tel Aviv District Court approved the continuation of the construction work of the light rail system in Bnei Brak on shabat, one of the holiest days in Jewish calender. The court decided that the work was necessary and that the lack of it could endanger lives. On Friday evening, tens of thousands of ultra orthodox trligious residents of Bnei Brak held a mass prayer to protest. Police say several demonstrators tried to break into the light rail construcyion site but were stopped by police.

The court ruled that the works that will be carried out above the ground will be done behind screens. A decision was made in an urgent petition submitted by NTA to the court, in order to cancel the injunction issued by the municipality of Bnei Brak for the light rail work in their city during the Sabbath. Danya Cebus, the construction company which orcastates the work also joined the urgent request.
Until recently, the mining machine operated along the railroad route in the Petah Tikva area. According to the representatives of Netivei Urban Transport Company, before the work of Bnei Brak arrived, they were presented to the mayor, and it was made clear to him that the work needed to be continued. However, urban transportation routes say that the municipality has exerted "heavy pressure on the companies operating," including Danya Cebus. NTA clarified to the court that "the work on weekends is carried out by foreign teams only." The request also details NTA's attempt to minimize The amount of work on the Sabbath.
