Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon and the head of the Federal Finance Division (FDF), Swiss Confederation Minister of Finance, Mr. Oli Morer, met in Jerusalem to discuss various financial and fiscal issues of mutual interest. The ministers met after a second round of economic dialogue in Switzerland, in which the parties identified areas of mutual interest and undertook commitments to deepen cooperation on a number of issues, including access to the market and the industry.
The discussions between the two finance ministers are a continuation of their meeting last year in Tel Aviv. On this occasion, Mr. Maurer and the Minister of Finance signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote cooperation in the field of financial services, to institutionalize ongoing financial dialogue between government ministries. The finance ministers met later in Switzerland and reiterated their commitment to deepen financial cooperation.
Today, the Director General of the Ministry of Finance, Shai Babad, and the Secretary of State for International Financial Affairs, Mr. Jorg Gesser, launched the second financial dialogue between Israel and Switzerland. In accordance with the memorandum of understanding for deepening cooperation in the financial services industry signed by the ministers last year, the two delegations exchanged views on issues related to market access and the provision of cross-border financial services. This year, new key topics were added to the discussion, including: regulation for the Pintek sector, digital currencies (cryptocurrency) and the fight against money laundering and financing terrorism.
The visit of the Swiss delegation to Israel also included participation in a workshop led by the private sector, which reviewed the development of blockachine technologies in Israel. In addition, an event dedicated to the subject of cyber security, with an emphasis on dealing with cyber threats in the field of technology. The two events allowed the sides to develop a dialogue on potential cooperation between the ecosystem of the Swiss systems and the ecosystem of the Israeli systems.
