Iran and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group launched coordinated missile and rocket attacks on Israel, striking multiple locations across the country, including residential areas and strategic energy infrastructure, in one of the most intense escalations of the ongoing regional conflict.

Israeli authorities said dozens of projectiles were fired in successive barrages toward central, northern and southern Israel, with air raid sirens sounding repeatedly overnight and into Thursday.

Hezbollah fired rockets from Lebanon toward northern Israel, while Iran launched longer-range missiles aimed at what it described as military and strategic targets.

Residential Areas Hit, Casualties Reported in North

A rocket fired from Lebanon struck a residential building in the northern town of Kiryat Shmona, wounding at least four people and causing significant damage to the structure, emergency services said.

Additional impacts and falling debris were reported across northern communities, with several civilians treated for shock and light injuries. Authorities said some damage was caused by shrapnel from intercepted missiles, a recurring risk during large-scale barrages.

Haifa Oil Refinery Hit, Limited but Sensitive Damage

Iranian missiles and interceptor debris struck the oil refinery complex in Haifa Bay, a key component of Israel’s energy infrastructure.

Officials said the impact caused localized fires and damage to electrical systems and auxiliary facilities, though the core refining operations remained largely intact.

The refinery operator reported that essential infrastructure — including power supply systems feeding parts of the complex — was damaged, temporarily disrupting operations in some units.

Israel’s Energy Ministry described the overall damage as “not significant,” adding that electricity outages in the north were brief and largely restored within under an hour.

Fire crews said blazes triggered by falling debris inside the refinery compound were quickly contained, and environmental monitoring found no dangerous levels of air pollution.

Extent of Damage: Infrastructure Intact

While visible damage and fires were reported at the Haifa facility, officials stressed that the strategic impact remained limited.

  • No fatalities were reported at the refinery site

  • Core production facilities continued operating

  • Damaged systems are expected to be restored within days

  • No hazardous material leaks were detected

However, analysts noted that even limited strikes on energy infrastructure carry symbolic and economic significance, particularly amid a broader regional conflict affecting global energy markets.

Iran Claims Precision Strikes on Strategic Targets

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had targeted oil refineries in Haifa and possibly in Ashdod, along with military and security installations, describing the operation as a calibrated response to earlier Israeli strikes on Iranian energy facilities.

Israeli officials said it remained unclear whether facilities in southern Israel were directly hit.

Broader Escalation Across the Region

The attacks form part of a wider escalation involving Iran, Israel, and Hezbollah, with near-daily exchanges of fire and expanding targeting of strategic infrastructure.

Hezbollah has intensified rocket and drone attacks on northern Israel in parallel with Iranian missile launches, stretching Israel’s air defense systems and increasing risks to civilian areas.

The conflict has also begun to affect global energy markets and supply routes, as strikes on oil and gas infrastructure spread across the region.

Despite the limited physical damage reported in Haifa, the strikes underscore Iran’s willingness to target high-value economic infrastructure inside Israel, raising concerns over further escalation and potential disruption to critical services if attacks intensify.
