The unemployment rate decreased slightly in September, along with the typical decrease for the summer months and holidays in the employed rate. However, relative stability has recently been maintained in the field of unemployment in Israel and it continues to be low to a similar extent as it was on the eve of the Corona crisis.
The data of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) published on Monday shows that the basic unemployment rate in Israel, according to international definitions, reached 3.9% in September, which is 172.8 thousand unemployed - about 7,200 less than in August, when the unemployment rate was 4.1%.
According to the broad definition, which includes all types of unemployed and unemployed, including those who stopped working due to layoffs or the closing of the workplace from March 2020, the employed who were temporarily absent from their work for economic reasons and those who gave up looking for work in recent months, the unemployment rate dropped to 5.2%, which is 228.8 thousand unemployed in September, compared to 242.1 thousand, which constituted 5.4% in August.
189.2 thousand employed people, which is 4.3%, were temporarily absent from their jobs in September, compared to 196.8 thousand, which is 4.4% in August. An unemployment rate of 5%, which is 221.2 thousand people, was recorded in September among those not participating in the labor force due to layoffs or the closing of their workplace from March 2020, together with the employed who were temporarily absent and the unemployed who were looking for work and did not find it. This, compared to 5.2% which is 231.8 thousand people, in August this year.
In September of this year, there were 6,913,600 15-year-olds and older who could work according to the international definitions (mostly 15-year-olds do not work in Israel), while the workforce had 4,401,200 women and men, which is 63.7%. The employment rate of the total population stood at 61.2% in September compared to 61.6% in August, as mentioned a decrease in the low rate that is mainly due to seasonal interest, the holiday month that follows the summer months.
