By 2021, Israel's population has grown by about 160,000 people and stands at about 9,449 million inhabitants - according to data published today (Thursday) by the Central Bureau of Statistics. The increase in the population of Israel was largely due to a natural increase in the population, a positive difference between the born and the dead, which is 83%.
The percentage increase of the population is 1.7%. 74% of the population are Jews, and their number is 6.982 million. About 21% of the population are Arabs, numbering 1.995 million, and 742,000 are others.
During the year, about 184,000 babies were added to the population. This is compared to 51,000 dead who were deducted from the population and about 7.5 thousand Israelis who stayed abroad for more than a year. Also, during the year about 25,000 immigrants and about 9,000 other immigrants were added to the population, compared to 20,000 immigrants last year.
During 2021, about 51,000 people died. The death toll is relatively high compared to previous years, and even higher than in 2020, during which 47,788 people died. According to the Ministry of Health, by mid-November, about 4,800 residents had died of the Corona virus.
During 2020, about 184,000 babies were born. Of these, 73.8% for Jewish mothers, 23.4% for Arab women and 2.8% for others.
The main countries from which the immigrants arrived this year were: Russia (30.0%), France (14.6%), the United States (13.9%) and Ukraine (12.4%). During the months of January to November of 2021, 22.7 thousand immigrants arrived in Israel. This is an increase of 28.8% compared to the same period last year.
