The Minister of Education, Dr. Yifat Shasha-Bitton, fired the director of her office, Yigal Slovik, in an unusual move. This is an unusual move, as it is the immediate dismissal of an incumbent CEO, in the middle of the school year and in the middle of the corona crisis and a large-scale vaccination campaign.
According to government sources, the disagreements between Slovik and Shasha-Biton, which led to the unusual move, arose against the background of his support for the new vaccination campaign in schools that began today, and the minister's opposition to the operation. Cause that they hope his immediate dismissal will not hurt the new vaccination campaign.

According to Shasha-Bitton's announcement to Slovakia, his dismissal will be immediate, so starting tonight, the Ministry of Education will be run without a director general.
Slovik was appointed by Shasha-Bitton to the post only in June, on the basis of an early acquaintance with the minister, and was elected even though he has no background in education. Shasha-Bitton then explained that being an educator herself she would prefer to appoint to the position a person with experience in systems management. Shasha Bitton said at the time that "the position requires a person who knows the public system and the government system, a person with clear management skills, rich managerial experience, who is able to manage crises, dismantle objections, harness the system and perform in-depth processes."
The Ministry of Education recently successfully launched the new vaccination campaign in schools. According to a report in News 13, Slovic told his associates that he was fired amid disagreements over the management of the corona crisis and the vaccination campaign in schools. Government sources confirmed that Shasha-Bitton disliked Slovakia's focus on the vaccination campaign, which is coordinated with the Prime Minister's Office, Naftali Bennett and the Ministry of Health.

Last July, ahead of the start of the school year, when the government began preparing for the vaccination campaign in schools, Shasha-Bitton announced that it was opposed to the move. In an interview with News 12 she said at the time that "doing it inside a school and putting that social pressure into the school is a test crime."
In the end, Shasha-Bitton agreed to a compromise whereby vaccinations in schools would be conducted only on condition that the principals of the institutions wanted it. Since then it has become clear that the demand among principals has been low, in part because of bureaucracy burdened on them to order a vaccine mobile, and also because at least 50 parents ’consent was required as a condition for ordering a vaccine mobile. The vaccination campaign that began after the school year failed and according to the Ministry of Health, less than 5% of the students were vaccinated inside the schools.
On Sunday, the new vaccination campaign in schools, aimed at children aged 5-11, began. This time the government decided to remove all barriers and conduct the operations in the schools regardless of the prior consent of principals or parents. As part of the new operation led by Slovik, alongside the Home Front Command and Magen David Adom, vaccine vehicles arrive at the schools, and vaccinate the students subject to parental approval or on the condition that one of their parents comes with them to receive the vaccine.
In addition to starting the student immunization campaign today, the government has approved the reduction of the green class program, which grants exemption from isolation to students exposed to verified corona patients and allows them to continue to attend schools subject to rapid corona tests. Shasha-Bitton opposed the reduction of the plan and she voted against the move at the cabinet meeting.
The Ministry of Education stated on the subject of the vaccination campaign in the schools that "the Ministry of Education is committed to all decisions of the government and the Corona Cabinet. We wish Mr. Yigal Slovik success in his future endeavors."
