"
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Social Equality announced today (Thursday) that as part of the five-year plan for Arab society for the years 2022-2026 (Resolution 923), the ministries will invest NIS 550 million in improving the environment and preparing for the climate crisis in Arab society.
To this end, the Ministry of Environmental Protection is formulating a new plan to create a significant change in the state of the environment in Arab society, thus being a key partner in a horizontal government effort to invest in infrastructure and the environment in the Arab sector and improve the quality of life of these residents.
The program will address two key core areas: first, changing waste management, to ensure a better quality of life and conserving natural resources in Arab society. The second is to prepare for the climate crisis, in a way that will ensure a high level of resilience of the authorities to the various climate challenges.
The formulation of the Ministry of Environmental Protection's plan will be based on the following principles: Public participation - conducting preliminary consultation processes with relevant parties; Advantage for size and concentration of effort through regional organizations; Strengthening the capabilities of local government; Improving the service provided to the resident; Increased supervision and enforcement in the field of the environment in the localities of Arab society; Encouraging local leadership, raising awareness and building environmental capabilities among the population; And ensuring the continuity of activities in the environmental program over time.
To ensure a meaningful public participation process, the ministry is prepared to turn to a variety of factors, including local authorities, regional clusters, civil society organizations and other bodies, in order to formulate new responses to the challenges facing Arab society.
The new five-year plan for Arab society, amounting to NIS 30 billion, will be approved by the government in the coming weeks, during the month of October.
