A large proportion of Israelis continue not to compromise in finding work, and thus the number of job vacancies in the economy has increased, rising in September to 137,487 women and men, compared with 133,835 job vacancies in August. The increase is also reflected in the vacancy rate of all jobs in the economy from 4.79% in August to 4.90% in September. This is according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics.
In the third quarter, there was a 6.7% increase in job vacancies compared to the second quarter, against the background of the broad opening of the economy in these months. However, in the hospitality and food industry there was an increase in the number of employed persons in the third quarter - for this reason - of 27.6% compared to the second quarter.
The increase in the number of job vacancies worries the heads of the Ministries of Finance, Economy and Welfare, and these are making efforts in various ways, including providing grants to those returning to work, to reduce the number of unemployed. However, while there are more than 300,000 unemployed in the economy, almost half of them could have found a job, at least temporarily - but they are in no hurry to do so.
One explanation for this is the desire of workers who have not been employed for a long time due to the Corona crisis to find jobs in new fields, waiting for appropriate training, utilizing the money they received during the Corona crisis for their expenses in the coming months and returning young people, according to studies, to live with parents. New and more lucrative job.
Thus it turns out that in the third quarter of the year there are 9,877 sales workers missing, including sales agents, sales representatives, sales assistants in stores and salesmen in stalls and markets, with in many of these areas employers offering only a minimum wage or slightly higher. However, there was a slight 3% decline in vacancies in the sales industry in the third quarter.
For a similar reason, of a relatively low wage payment, 6,842 kitchen and cleaning workers in institutions and households are also missing in the third quarter, and here an increase of 3% was recorded compared with the second quarter. 4,901 cooks are still missing, an increase of 7% compared to the second quarter, and the crisis in the industry is particularly severe, with 9,871 many waiters and bartenders also missing in the third quarter. However, this is a decrease of 13% compared to the second quarter, when the economy came out of the third closure and the restaurants and cafes opened with restrictions.
A large shortage, now also felt worldwide, exists in the truck and bus drivers industry, where there are 4,990 job vacancies, with an 8% increase in the third quarter. Also 4,751 security guards are missing, in the industry of paying the minimum wage mostly, an increase of 2%. There are also 3,819 telephone sales representatives missing, although there was a significant 15% decline in the third quarter.
Even in occupations with higher wages, the shortage of workers is relatively large: 14,427 missing engineers, an increase of 1% in the third quarter; 4,019 practical engineers are missing, an increase of 8%. Meanwhile, the government today announced the establishment of a team of CEOs of the relevant government ministries that will work to formulate operational plans to encourage the immigration of new immigrants with professional training in the fields of engineering and high-tech.
In addition, there are also 5,294 caregivers missing in institutions and households, with most Israelis not interested in working in these professions. There are also 2,579 vacancies in the construction of sequences, chisels, plasterers, locksmiths, skeleton workers in the construction field, an increase of 1% in the third quarter. 2,127 homebuilders, builders and concrete builders are also missing, an increase of no less than 19% in the third quarter.
The CBS emphasized that the number of job vacancies in industries (where wages are not low) in the fields of industry, mining, quarrying, electricity and water, increased significantly by 13% compared with the second quarter.
