Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman begins work. The Minister announced today (Wednesday) that he is returning the criterion for maximizing earning capacity in order to receive a subsidy in day care centers worth approximately NIS 1,800 per child. It will be recalled that Foreign Minister Yair Lapid introduced this section when he served as Minister of Finance, but immediately after he ended his term, this section was repealed so that ultra-Orthodox families were no longer required to go to work to receive the subsidy.
In order to encourage integration in the employment market, the Minister of Finance, Avigdor Lieberman, announced today that the conditions of eligibility for daycare subsidies have been changed so that in order to be eligible for a government subsidy for daycare fees, the spouse will have to work at least 24 hours a week. This condition already exists today with regard to the mother of the toddler.
In addition, it was decided to allow for a subsidy in cases where the spouse acquires an education or skills that will allow integration into the labor market in the future. The usual eligibility rules will remain as they are (eligibility according to the per capita income test, eligibility for single parents, etc.).
As long as the parents enter the labor market during the school year, they will be able to receive a subsidy from the day the work begins. The new rules will apply from the next school year.
The Minister of Finance, Avigdor Lieberman: "The decision I am making today is a very important step that changes the priorities in the country and puts those who work and pay taxes in the forefront. The current mechanism harms working parents and prioritizes those who do not. ".
According to estimates by the Ministry of Finance, about 18,000 ultra-Orthodox families do not meet the new criteria and will therefore be stopped from the subsidy, which is estimated at a total of NIS 400 million.
MK Moshe Gafni said: "The criterion set by the evil Lieberman will prevent a working woman whose husband studies Torah from subsidizing a child in a daycare center and will cause severe economic harm to these families." We are waiting for Bennett who said he will not harm the ultra-Orthodox The ultra-Orthodox, the working women and the Torah scholars. "
