The National Insurance Institute publishes the 2017 Wage and Income Survey and it turns out that Jerusalem residents are at the bottom of the list when it comes to earning a job.
Of the major cities defined as cities with more than 200,000 residents, Jerusalem is at the bottom of the list. The average wage of workers in the capital of Israel reaches eighty-one and a half percent of the average wage in the economy. The average wage in August totaled NIS 10,808, an increase of 2.5% compared to last year.
Since the beginning of 2018, the average wage in the economy is higher than NIS 10,000 a month, and twice in 2019 the average wage was higher than NIS 11,000. However, as in previous months, only 34.2% of employees in the economy earn higher than the national average wage - 1.27 million people. On the other hand, 65.8% of the salaried employees in August earned less than the average wage - 2.43 million people.
The city of Jerusalem above the earning rate is Ashdod with 90.3% of the average salary. At the top of the list of cities is Tel Aviv with a rate of 122% of the average wage, followed by Petah Tikva - 109.5%, Rishon LeZion -108.8% and Haifa -106.9%.
The average salary distribution of employees shows that 33.6% of employees earn up to a minimum wage of NIS 5,025 in 2017 and about 69.9% of employees earn up to the average wage.
In the Savyon settlement, the highest average wages for salaried employees (NIS 20,028 per month), in Nofit (NIS 18,979) and in Lehavim (NIS 18,830) were measured.
In August, wage earners are employees in the information and communications industries, who earned an average salary of NIS 21,364. Employees at the Electric Company and Mekorot skipped two places ahead, and placed second with an average salary of NIS 19,002. Workers in finance and insurance pushed back to third place with an average salary of only NIS 17,838. In the fourth place, the employees were placed in the public administration with an average salary of NIS 15,443, and in the fifth place, as always, workers in the industry with an average salary of NIS 14,739.
Hence some data on the self-employed:
