The Israeli chip company Banias Labs of Mahod Hasharon, founded by the entrepreneur and investor Avigdor Vilanz, was sold to the Canadian company Alpha wave for $240 million in cash, according to an announcement published today on behalf of the companies.
It's a quick exit in terms of Vilanz as well - Banias Labs was established in 2020 with a seed investment from Vilanz, and so far has operated under the radar. Along with Vilanz, the company was founded by a group of graduates of Huawei's R&D center in Israel: the company's CEO Amnon Rom, Amri Levy (Vice President of Architecture) and Or Vidal (VP of Technologies),
To date, the company has not reported any external capital raising, but TheMarker has learned that it has so far raised about 40 million dollars. According to the data of the registrar of companies, its shareholders include several funds that usually invest together with Vilanz, including Atreides and Valor, as well as several private investors (the company is registered under the name Solanium Labs). Another investor is the Israeli Viola Foundation. It employs about 50 people.
Banias Labs has developed an optical signal processing chip for data centers. The buyer, Alphawave, which is traded on the London Stock Exchange, is developing intellectual property for chips with fast data connectivity and low energy consumption. As part of the deal, AlphaWave is negotiating with a major cloud provider in North America to sell it Banias Labs solutions, with a sales potential of $300 million.
Wilenz has signed a series of exits in the field of chips in the last decade - such as Havana Labs, which was sold to Intel (+2.51% 25.97) for 2 billion dollars, Annapurna Labs, which was sold to Amazon (-1.77% 110.9) for 360 million dollars, and Liba, which was sold to Cisco for approx. -300 million dollars. He is also an entrepreneur and investor in a number of other startups in the field such as Excite Labs, Lightbits Labs, Dust Photonics, Protantex and others.
