Amid escalating tensions in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced a significant shift in military divisions operating in the region. Division 162 is set to depart, making way for Division 99 to assume its duties. The exchange, scheduled for today, will see Brigadier General Itzik Cohen's Division 162 being replaced by Brigadier General Barak Hiram's Division 99. However, Chief of Staff Lt. Col. Hartzi Halevi is yet to decide on Brigadier General Hiram's involvement in the recent conflict on October 7.

The Nahal Brigade, which has maintained the Beitur Netzer corridor in Gaza for the past five months, is also withdrawing from the region. It will be replaced by reserve fighters from two brigades under Division 99. The corridor's primary mission is to secure an eight-kilometer stretch between Gaza City and the coast, extending from Kibbutz Bari.

The IDF, anticipating further operations in central Gaza, including towns like Deir al-Balah and Nusairat or Rafah, has completed preparations. While awaiting political approval, the IDF estimates a minimum of three weeks for evacuating the Gazan population, particularly from Rafah, to designated shelter areas.

Over the past month, approximately 150,000 Palestinians, out of a million, have evacuated Rafah following the IDF's operations. During this time, around 1000 terrorists have been neutralized, with 183 airstrikes conducted during Passover alone. Division 162, which played a pivotal role in these operations, is now gearing up for further missions, primarily focusing on Rafah.

The IDF has also constructed a humanitarian axis crossing Gaza and destroyed 20 km of Hamas tunnels along the route. Additionally, it collaborated with the US Army to complete a naval pier and facilitate the transfer of humanitarian aid. However, recent attacks by Hamas on IDF forces conducting humanitarian patrols along the coastal strip highlight ongoing tensions.

In diplomatic developments, Egypt is reportedly engaged in discussions with Israeli intelligence heads regarding negotiations and potential ceasefires in Rafah. Sources suggest proposals aimed at freezing military actions in exchange for diplomatic initiatives and negotiations. Meanwhile, Hamas and Fatah delegations are set to convene in China to address the aftermath of the conflict and explore avenues for political solutions and reconciliation.

The developments underscore the volatile situation in the Gaza Strip and the complex diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and long-term stability in the region.
