On November 19, 2020, the Economic Assistance Program Law was enacted, and under the law is anchored in an arrangement chapter that grants an employee who is absent from work due to being in isolation, payment of isolation benefits, at a rate similar to the rate of sick pay the employee is entitled to.
The bill approved tonight will enshrine in the law a similar mechanism that concerns the payment of isolation fees to a self-employed person who is absent from work due to his or her child's stay in isolation. This is done by applying the mechanism established for workers, with the obligatory changes resulting from the nature and method of employment of the self-employed compared to employees, since the self-employed do not have employers who can participate in financing as with the employees.
While in the original proposal of the Ministry of Finance, the tariff was NIS 430 per day, in the final version it is NIS 570 per day, with the days calculated retrospectively from July 2021, and another day, Wednesday for isolation, calculated from December 21, 2021.
