The new Minister of Transportation, Miri Regev, met earlier today (Sunday) with senior officials of the Ministry of Transportation and Israel Railways to discuss work on the railroads on Saturday. Regev said that on Shabbat only work related to supervision will be carried out, and asked to present additional solutions to reduce work on the track on Shabbat.

Last night, those around the minister also claimed that despite the request of the minister of housing and Torah Judaism chairman Yitzhak Goldknopf to stop the works on Shabbat, they will continue.
In today's discussion, the minister was presented with the works currently being carried out on the train and the operational and safety needs that the train requires, including life-saving maintenance work to maintain safety.
Regev claimed that during the works being carried out on the train, the status quo will be maintained on Shabbat, as has been the custom so far in Netanyahu's governments, and only infrastructure works related to soul control will be carried out, designed to protect human life and travel safety. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that by the end of the week the railway representatives will present additional solutions to Regev to reduce work on Shabbat.
Yesterday the chairman of Torah Judaism and Minister of Housing Goldknopf sent a letter to the Regev and demanded a halt to the train works that are being carried out on Shabbat between the Pharmacist Interchange and the Halacha Interchange in Tel Aviv, which in his opinion do not meet the definition of supervision.
Goldknopf claimed that these works are the result of agreements signed by previous governments. "We cannot accept the continuation of this situation, and I ask for your urgent intervention in this regard for the purpose of canceling the aforementioned agreements," he wrote.
Last night we claimed in Regev's environment that the works will continue on Shabbat as was the case under the previous governments. An official at the Ministry of Transportation stated that Goldknopf's letter is "the lip service that Torah Jews owe to their voters. It has always been in the past, they issue a letter and that's the end of it. The work will not stop."
