Starting Wednesday, July 24, direct train service from Be'er Sheva to Tel Aviv will be halted until Saturday evening, July 27, due to essential track maintenance. This interruption affects travel between various key stations, impacting commuters and travelers in the region.

Residents of the Western Negev will be particularly affected, as they will no longer have the option to travel directly to the center via train during this period. The suspension also includes routes between Kiryat Malachi-Yoav and Lod, and between Beit Shemesh and Lod stations.

Shuttle Services Implemented

In response to the suspension, Israel Railways will provide shuttle services free of charge between affected hubs to accommodate passengers. These shuttles will operate according to a modified schedule to ensure minimal disruption during the maintenance period.

The decision to suspend direct train lines from the Western Negev is linked to ongoing security concerns, including threats posed by anti-aircraft missiles near the northern Gaza Strip. Debate among government ministries regarding budget allocation for track protection continues, with implications for future infrastructure projects and commuter safety.

Future Outlook and Contingency Plans

Israel Railways plans to resume normal train operations promptly upon completion of the maintenance work, pending approval from relevant authorities. Discussions are ongoing to enhance security measures along vulnerable sections of the railway to safeguard passenger transit in the region.

Looking ahead, Israel Railways has announced similar maintenance works affecting northern regions, specifically from Wednesday, July 31, to Sunday, August 4. This will impact travel to destinations north of Haifa, prompting the operation of free shuttle services to affected stations during the temporary suspension of train services.

Precautionary Measures

Passengers are advised to check Israel Railways' official channels for updates on shuttle schedules and operational changes. The maintenance activities, focused on upgrading track components in critical areas, aim to ensure long-term safety and efficiency for rail travelers across the country.
