Eight people were killed and 28 were injured on Sunday after an Iranian missile scored a direct hit on a shelter in the city of Beit Shemesh. According to emergency services, four of the victims were inside the shelter when its roof collapsed from the force of the impact. The remaining fatalities were in nearby homes struck by the blast. Among the injured, two are in serious condition, two in moderate condition and the rest sustained light injuries.

Eight houses in the residential compound were nearly destroyed by the missile and the resulting explosion.

“Extensive Destruction” at the Scene

Magen David Adom (MDA) said that lightly and moderately injured victims were evacuated to hospitals for further treatment.

Nati Ben Shimon, a paramedic with the MDA motorcycle unit, described widespread devastation at the scene. “There is extensive destruction, including several buildings that were severely damaged. Some of the injured were trapped in apartments and were brought to us by rescue forces,” he said.

He added that teams initially located four people in critical condition with severe injuries. Other crews treated two seriously wounded individuals, along with several others who were moderately and lightly injured.

One of the Heaviest Barrages Since Start of War

Residents said security and municipal teams were deployed throughout the area and urged the public to stay away to allow rescue operations to proceed.

The strike was part of one of the most intense barrages since the war began. Air raid sirens sounded continuously for more than 15 minutes, from communities along the northern border to areas south of Beersheba.

In the same wave of attacks, a man was injured in a central Israeli moshav and the roof of a school in the center of the country was damaged.

IDF: Incident Under Review

An IDF spokesperson said Home Front Command search and rescue teams, along with medical forces and a helicopter, were operating at the impact site in Beit Shemesh.

“Following an initial examination, it appears that warnings and sirens were activated in the area,” the military said, adding that the circumstances surrounding the strike are under investigation.

Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, the IDF spokesperson for foreign media, accused the Iranian regime of deliberately targeting civilians. “We know this is their strategy,” he said. “In their last attack, they killed many civilians in the town of Beit Shemesh. We will continue to do everything in our power to remove these capabilities.”

Beit Shemesh, located west of Jerusalem, has been targeted in previous rounds of missile fire, but Sunday’s strike marks one of the deadliest single incidents in the city since the escalation began.
