Foreign airlines resume flights to and from Israel. This follows the ceasefire reached between Hamas and Islamic Jihad and Israel. Some of the companies, mainly American, returned to fly to Israel this weekend. Most foreign companies will resume flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport early next week. After Delta Airlines announced yesterday the return of flights to and from Israel, today American Airlines also announced the resumption of flights to Israel. American will take its first flight from New York to Ben Gurion Airport on May 24 and from Ben Gurion Airport to New York on May 25.
As mentioned, after a break of several days, Delta Airlines announced the return of flights on routes to Israel: The company will renew its route this coming weekend, during which three flights from New York (JFK) to Tel Aviv will be operated, with two flights scheduled to take off on Sunday 23 May From Tel Aviv to New York.
Delta is the first American airline to resume flights to Tel Aviv, after the three foreign airlines stopped flights following the security escalation. For American Airlines, the halt to operations came immediately after the launch of the first flight to Tel Aviv, while United suspended its operations at a time when it would increase its routes and add more destinations to its operations from Israel.
Meanwhile, El Al announces reinforcement of lines in favor of returning Israeli passengers stuck abroad: the company will issue more flights to New York, London and Zurich.
Along with stopping the flight activity of many airlines, passenger traffic is maintained: on Thursday, 12,200 passengers passed through Ben Gurion Airport, 6,600 of whom took off from Israel on 46 flights and 5,600 who landed here on 44 flights.
After Delta, United also announced that it would resume operations in Israel. On Friday, the company's flight took off from Newark Airport on its way to Tel Aviv and intends to reinforce the line from Newark to meet the demands of passengers whose flight was canceled during the fighting in Gaza. Early next week, the company will also resume its flights on routes from San Francisco and Chicago.
The foreign companies canceled flights to Israel after Hamas tried to launch missiles in the direction of Ben Gurion Airport. In some cases, Iron Dome systems were used to intercept missiles from the Gaza Strip. It should be noted that missiles hit Rishon Lezion near the airport. Tel Aviv and Gush Dan were also attacked several times, which led to the halting of flights to Israel. During the cessation of activity of the foreign companies, the Israeli companies: El Al and Israir mobilized and increased the volume of flights to Israel and even launched an operation to return the Israelis who got stuck abroad and were unable to return home.
