Bloomberg News says it is possible to measure when the epidemic will end based on the current vaccination rate. To this end, Bloomberg has built the largest database of vaccines worldwide, having already given over 119 million doses in various countries.
Scientists in the United States, including Dr. Anthony Pauchi, who was one of the top members of the Trump administration's team to deal with the corona virus, estimate that around 70 percent to 85 percent of the population needs to be vaccinated so we can return to normal life. The Bloomberg Surveillance Index shows that in some countries it is advancing at a faster rate than others, with the goal of reaching 75% of the population with two doses.

According to the Bloomberg Index, Israel is the country with the highest immunization rate in the world, and it is expected to reach a target of 75% of the population within two months. In contrast, the U.S. will reach that destination, by calculations, on New Year's Eve 2022. Although data varies from state to state, so North Dakota is expected to reach its destination six months before Texas. Because the rate of vaccinations is faster in Western countries than in the rest of the world, it is estimated that At the current rate of immunization, it will be seven years before the world meets its target.
The Bloomberg Index tracks real-time immunization data so that calculations vary from day to day, especially at the beginning of vaccinations. Data may also change due to temporary disruptions.
For example, New York's deadline has been extended to 17 months due to a storm that erupted in the city this week and prevented many from going out to get vaccinated. However, the due date has been revised back to 13 months.
Similarly, the immunization rate in Canada has fallen by half in recent weeks amid reports of delays in receiving vaccines. Based on Canada's current immunization rate, it will take over ten years to reach a vaccination target of 75% of the population. However, the situation in Canada is expected to change as it has contracts to purchase more doses per person than any other country, and the rate of vaccination is expected to start to climb. Canada is not alone. The overall rate of vaccination in the world will probably accelerate, as in the countries where most of the vaccines are produced - India and Mexico - only work has begun. To date, countries have ordered over 8.5 billion doses of vaccines, but only a third of countries have begun the vaccination campaign.
The goal, as stated, is to reach a situation where enough people in each community are vaccinated so that the virus does not continue to spread without control. The more people are vaccinated, the more groups will be able to build collective protection against the virus and isolated outbreaks will quickly disappear and not spread. That is, building a herd vaccine.
However, in the scientific community there are varying definitions as to when to obtain a herd vaccine. The prevailing definition is that when there are enough people protected to influence the rate of spread of the virus, this usually happens when a vaccine of 75% of the population is reached.

7,385 people have been diagnosed with corona Thursday - the Ministry of Health updated this morning (Thursday). As a result, the number of people infected in the country rose to 671,459. Yesterday, results were obtained for 85,925 tests, with the percentage of positive for the virus being 8.9%. The test data and their results are not final and may change in subsequent updates from the Ministry of Health. The data come against the background of the cabinet meeting that will take place today at 13:00, at which it will be decided whether to extend the current closure, which is due to end tomorrow, or extend it by a few days.
The number of active patients is 76,896. 1,768 patients are hospitalized, and in the last day there has been a decrease in the number of serious and respiratory patients: the number of serious patients has increased since yesterday and reached 1,103. The number of respirators has also risen and now stands at 315. Currently, 4,947 patients have died in Israel since the outbreak of the plague - 59 of them in the past day.
In the day preceding the last day, 7,919 people were diagnosed in Corona. The number of tests was 88,503, of which 9.3% were positive. A month and a half after the start of the vaccination campaign, starting today, anyone over the age of 16 will be able to get vaccinated against the corona virus. The four HMOs have received advance notice from the Ministry of Health to prepare for the cancellation of the priority and mass opening of the vaccination campaign. In two of the funds, national and general, it has been possible since yesterday for all age groups to make an appointment and get vaccinated. The other two funds, Maccabi and Meuhedet, decided to wait for today.
Recently, the HMOs reported that the load felt at the beginning of the operation among those aged 60 and over has passed. However, the HMOs hope to reach the threshold of 240,000 vaccines per day, both in the first and second doses. At the same time, the current wave of vaccines is characterized by young people who are used to making appointments online, so there will probably be less strain on the collapsed centers.
To date, about 5.2 million vaccines against Corona have been given in Israel - to 3.3 million vaccinated. According to the Ministry of Health, about 1.6 million people are entitled to a vaccine certificate after receiving the second dose of vaccine. 48,000 people received the second dose of the vaccine yesterday as part of Operation Returning to Life, out of the 107,000 doses given.
"From this morning, anyone over the age of 16 can get vaccinated. Take advantage of the opportunity that almost no country in the world has," said Health Minister Yuli Edelstein.
