As expected, due to the extension of the third closure by another 10 days so far, employers have increased their employees' time off. Data reported this morning (Sunday) by the Employment Service show that 5,560 new jobseekers were registered over the weekend. Since the beginning of the third closure, a total of 150,159 new job seekers have been registered, of whom 89,000 have been registered since the closure was tightened.
The data also show that 121,291 jobseekers were taken on unpaid leave and their rate is about 80.8% of all new unemployed, while 28,868 of them were fired or resigned.
The service notes that employees in the teaching, education and training industry continue to be the main group among new job seekers since the start of the closure with a rate of 26.9%.
Since the closure began, 40,393 teaching, education and training workers have been registered as job seekers, 37,337 of them since the closure was tightened and the education system closed. 2,508 of them were registered during the past weekend alone and they constitute 45% of all registrants over the weekend.
These data are consistent with data published by the Employment Service last Thursday, which show that the main victims in the third closure are women, who in this closure constitute 70% of those who were expelled or fired.
Meanwhile, a new study conducted by VMware revealed a 41 percent increase among workers from the European region who see remote work as an existing given rather than a benefit. This figure climbs to a rate of 53 percent among Generation X. This is according to a new study conducted among 2,850 business executives, human resources managers and computer managers from this area. The study was conducted by research firm Vanson Bourne for VMware, a leader in innovative enterprise software. According to the study, the workplace revolution has created employees who do not want to return to old work structures and appreciate the flexibility that the new way of working offers. "For split work and to lead a culture of trust in order to strengthen the creativity of the employees and create a work environment that is not based on a face-to-face meeting," they said.
More from the data: More than three-quarters (76 percent) of survey participants believe personal relationships with co-workers have improved, 66 percent felt an improvement in self-confidence that allowed them to speak in video sessions and 69 percent said their stress levels dropped. 30 percent felt an improvement in morale and 34 percent felt an improvement in efficiency. Furthermore, 67 percent of participants indicated that recruiting new employees was made easier, especially in the case of working parents (83 percent) and candidates from minority groups (68 percent). When it comes to innovation and formulating new ideas, nearly three-quarters (72 percent) agreed that innovation now stems from unnecessary places in the organization compared to the past. Despite this, more than four out of ten (41 percent) decision makers who participated in the survey were concerned that their team would not remain task-focused while working remotely. More than a quarter (28 percent) also felt that their managerial culture discouraged working remotely and more than half (59 percent) felt pressure to work outside of regular business hours. "These factors point to a need for change in traditional managerial thinking and routines," said the study authors. "The decentralized workforce to cooperate, to be involved, to be visible and efficient has already helped thousands of organizations and millions of employees - and we continue to innovate in this area."
