In a powerful display of solidarity, thousands gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening to rally for the release of individuals held captive by Hamas. Emotions ran high as family members, including Maayan Zim, whose daughter Dafna is among the abducted, took the stage to share their anguish and frustration.
Zim directed her ire at the Red Cross, questioning why they had not demanded access to the captives and highlighting the lack of visits from Red Cross representatives. She passionately appealed to the world, holding them responsible for the safety of those abducted, and also criticized the country's leaders, insisting they take decisive action for their return.
Former state president Reuven Rivlin recounted a conversation with the Red Cross Commission, emphasizing the need for humanitarian aid to be contingent on Hamas allowing visits to the abductees. Rivlin expressed confidence in the capabilities of Israel's leaders and military, assuring the families that efforts were being made.
The rally, however, faced internal tension when some family members protested the inclusion of performances by artists, demanding a focus on speeches from families and friends. Organizers and other family members urged restraint.
Orli Gilboa, whose daughter is held by Hamas, called for concrete action, stating that empathy alone was insufficient. She appealed to the Israeli government, especially to women, urging them to imagine if it were their own children in captivity.
In a separate event in Jerusalem, hundreds gathered for a silent rally focused on strengthening the spirit and advocating for Israeli reform. Moshe Shapira, who tragically lost his son Aner, shared his son's commitment to justice and the fight against injustice, racism, and homophobia.
Simultaneously, in front of the Netanyahu family home in Caesarea, hundreds called for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's resignation. Signs reading "Bibi Ishem is guilty, impeach now" and "Netanyahu resign now, how did you not know anything" adorned the area. Pictures of the abductees were prominently displayed, emphasizing the urgency of their release from Gaza.
