The government approved tonight in a telephone poll the extension of regulations prohibiting demonstrations more than a kilometer from the place of residence until October 13. This is only about a quarter of an hour before it expires. In addition, restrictions on trade activities and gatherings have been extended, including in prayers or religious ceremonies.
It will be interesting to see if extending the restrictions will prevent demonstrations across the country. So far, restrictions have prevented major demonstrations in Paris Square near the prime minister's residence but have led to the outbreak of hundreds of demonstrations across the country.
The restrictions, which include a protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, were due to expire at midnight. Due to this, it was proposed that the extension of regulations be put into effect immediately, so as not to create a situation where it is possible to demonstrate without distance limit.
Already on Tuesday, the government approved the extension of the declaration of a special state of emergency due to the corona virus until October 13. This, after last week the Knesset approved an amendment to the Corona Powers Act, which allows the government to restrict the distance from the place of residence for demonstrations. Prior to that, the protests were outlawed and there were no restrictions on the protesters, except for wearing masks and maintaining a distance of two meters.
With the law, the declaration of a special state of emergency came into force, which includes, among other things, a ban on holding a gathering, demonstration, prayer or religious ceremony in a public space where there are more than 20 participants and social distance is not maintained.
This gathering has the authority of a police officer to order the dispersal of the gathering or to maintain a distance of two meters between the participants and to the extent that a person refuses this instruction, to impose a fine for this violation, or to use reasonable force in the circumstances to disperse the gathering.
The government also approved last week the extension that the general closure imposed following the spread of the plague was extended by another three days - until October 14. The ministers also approved the imposition of a fine of NIS 500 on a person who enters another person's place of residence, including accommodation in a sukkah during the period of general closure. However, going out for the purpose of purchasing the four species is considered an essential need and will be allowed during the closure until the end of the Sukkot holiday.
