Israel President Reuven Rivlin decided to convert about four months out of Nochi Dankner's imprisonment, on probation to be added to the probation sentence imposed on him. This decision will allow Dankner to stand before the parole committee soon, rather than face it as it should, in early May.
The statement further states that "the decision was made on the basis of Dankner's medical condition these days. These are medical circumstances that were not before the court at sentencing and which, according to medical opinions, were greatly aggravated during his imprisonment and necessitated urgent medical intervention."
Last weekend, the Central County District Attorney's Office announced that it had decided to close the case against him. The nature of the suspicions and the details of the investigation are still subject to a prohibition order. About a month ago, it was reported that the former IDB controlling shareholder and one of the strongest people in the Israeli economy had been transferred from his jail due to a criminal investigation opened against him.
The investigation was conducted by a fraud investigation party in the Central District of the Israel Police. Following the investigation, the police asked the president of the state to freeze the decision on the pardon request he filed. Remember, Dankner is serving a 3-year sentence for his conviction in the IDB share run case Dankner was transferred following the opening of the interrogation from Ma'asiyahu Prison to Nitzan Prison.
In February 2019, about 5 months after he began serving his sentence, Dankner applied for a pardon for a president who relies primarily on his medical condition. Dankner appealed to Rivlin to grant him immediate release for his imprisonment, in light of his deteriorating state of health, the condition of his elderly parents and the dramatic fall following the affair.
At the amnesty request, Dankner requested that the president act according to the degree of mercy, examining the totality of circumstances that led him to his imprisonment. Dankner's attorneys note that Dankner's contribution to Israeli society and the public interest should be considered in allowing Dankner to repay his debts on the basis of the arrangement he undertook in the context of the collapse of the IDB group.
The President's House spokeswoman said at the inauguration that "State President Reuben (Ruby) Rivlin will not make his decision on the matter until the enforcement authorities deal with his case." Now that the criminal cloud has been removed, the president will be allowed to decide the pardon request.
It should be noted that officials in Dankner's environment immediately claimed that the case was a false suspicion and plot, and even raised the possibility that he had been the victim of extortion by another prisoner in prison.
