A young Israeli man was fatally injured this morning in a suspected drive-by attack near the Assaf intersection, close to the settlement of Beit El Binyamin. The IDF spokesperson reported that the driver of the gas tanker involved in the incident was neutralized at the scene and is currently in serious condition. IDF forces have set up blockades in the area as they search for additional suspects.
At 09:53, Magen David Adom (MDA) received a report of a gas tanker hitting a pedestrian near the Givat Assaf intersection. Medics and paramedics arrived at the scene to treat the 20-year-old man, who was found unconscious with multiple injuries after being struck at a bus station. Despite efforts to stabilize him, the man succumbed to his injuries.
Firefighters Secure Area
Firefighters responded to the scene due to the involvement of a gas tanker, which was carrying dangerous materials. According to Lieutenant-Tapsar Roni Yaakov, commander of the Matitihu station, firefighters worked to ensure the safety of the surrounding area and remained on high alert for any potential hazards.
Recent Surge in Terror Attacks
This incident follows a series of deadly terror attacks in recent weeks. Earlier in the week, three workers at the Allenby cargo terminal were killed in a shooting carried out by a Jordanian terrorist. The victims were identified as Yori Birnbaum (65), Yohanan Shohori (61), and Adrian Podmesser (57). The attacker, Jordanian truck driver Maher Jazi, was shot and killed by security forces at the scene.
Just a week prior, three Israeli police officers—Sergeant Major Hadas Brentz, Inspector Arik Ben Eliyahu, and Sergeant Major Roni Shakuri—were murdered in a shooting attack near the Tarkomia checkpoint north of Hebron. The terrorist, Mahand Al-Sauda, was later located and eliminated by IDF forces in a raid near Hebron.
The recent attacks highlight the continued escalation of violence in the region.
