Six Israelis were murdered and 21 others were wounded in a deadly shooting attack at the Ramot Junction in Jerusalem this morning. Among the injured, five are in serious condition, two are in moderate condition, and three have suffered light injuries. The attack took place near a bus and a light rail station, and the assailants were swiftly neutralized at the scene by security forces and a civilian.

According to an initial investigation, the two Palestinian terrorists — Mutna Omar from the village of Kabiyyeh and Muhammad Taha from Qatanah — launched a pre-planned ambush. They crossed into Israeli territory with the help of a Palestinian accomplice, using a known breach near the Qalandiya crossing. An Israeli Arab driver, reportedly known for transporting illegal entrants, then drove them to the attack site.

Armed with a Carlo-style submachine gun, a pistol, and knives, the terrorists exited the vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire on civilians waiting at the intersection. Victims included passengers on a bus and bystanders near the light rail stop.

Security Measures and Arrests

The terrorists were not previously known to Israeli security services for any involvement in terrorism. A man believed to have driven them into the city was detained for questioning, while Shin Bet is interrogating two bus drivers who were present at the scene.

In response, the IDF raised its alert level in Judea and Samaria, deploying special forces from Duvdevan, Maglan, and additional armored training units. Several villages near Ramallah were cordoned off, and search operations are ongoing to locate any further suspects or collaborators.

The Jerusalem Police also raised their alert level, increasing checks at all crossings into Judea and Samaria. Border Guard riot police were dispatched to the scene and other sensitive locations in the city.

Netanyahu and Herzog Respond to the Attack

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited the site of the attack, condemned the violence and emphasized the government's ongoing efforts to dismantle terror networks:

“We are in a fierce war against terrorism on multiple fronts. We’ve had major successes against terrorist regimes, and we will continue this war in Gaza, in Jerusalem, and throughout Judea and Samaria.”

President Isaac Herzog issued a powerful statement:

“A painful and difficult morning. Innocent civilians — children and adults — were murdered and injured in cold blood by terrorists on a city street. The shocking attack reminds us that we are fighting absolute evil. The world must understand this and internalize that terrorism will never break us. The people of Israel are strong.”

Eyewitness Accounts and Emergency Response

MDA paramedic Nadav Taib described the horrific aftermath:

“We arrived in large forces after receiving reports of gunfire. There were people lying unconscious on the sidewalk and road, shattered glass everywhere, and a great deal of chaos.”

The scene was closed off, and Highway 1 and the Arazim Tunnel were blocked to traffic during the operation.

Hamas Reaction and Rising Incitement

Terrorist group Hamas welcomed the attack, calling it a “natural response to the occupation’s crimes” and a message against Israeli actions in Gaza City and at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Security officials have already noted an increase in online incitement and fear the attack could inspire copycat assaults.

Despite the severity of the incident, Israeli security sources highlighted that serious attacks have decreased by 90% compared to the previous year. In 2024, 185 shooting attacks were recorded, while in 2025, only 13 have occurred so far.

This latest attack underscores the volatile security situation in Jerusalem and the West Bank as the war in Gaza continues. With tensions high and the threat of additional attacks looming, Israeli security forces are maintaining heightened alert levels and reinforcing deployments across sensitive areas.
