After last week about 4,500 Israelis paid the fines imposed on them for violating the corona regulations in the total amount of NIS 2.4 million, the 100,000 reported reports line was crossed. This is reported by the Center for the Collection of Fines in the Enforcement and Collection Authority.
The center reports that in the past week, about 11,000 corona reports were issued to citizens in the amount of about NIS 8 million. In the last month, Israelis were given an average of 11,000 corona fines a week. Since the beginning of the corona crisis, more than 376,000 fines have been distributed.
The director of the center for collecting fines, Doron Infrastructure, said that about 88,000 citizens did not pay the fines imposed on them on time, and the center began to take collection actions, including the foreclosure of bank accounts. Many of the fines granted have a 90-day payment period from the date of receipt of the fine. If the fine is not completed within 90 days the recipient of the fine will be forced to pay an additional arrears of 50 per cent.
According to the director of the center, "Many of them apply to us to cancel the arrears accumulated in the cases and we help them in accordance with the law. For some we delete all arrears because their financial situation is difficult and others try to help with the deployment.
Advocate Idit Reichert, who specializes in criminal law, recently told Ynet that "hundreds of thousands of reports show the disconnect between corona laws and everyday reality. The lack of logic has led to a sharp crisis of confidence in the public regarding law enforcement and unnecessary confrontations with the police. "Witnesses of decisions that seem arbitrary, such as studies that take place differently in different sectors, that the leadership seems to shirk equal responsibility to the general public and place the burden of responsibility on the police alone.
It should be noted that at the beginning of November, the Ministerial Committee on Legislative Affairs approved the reduction of part of the Corona fines - and reduced them from NIS 20,000 to NIS 10,000. This is against the background of the ultra-Orthodox parties' opposition to raising fines.
The committee decided to reduce the fines imposed, among other things, for holding events, parties, conferences, ceremonies, festivals or entertainment and art shows in violation of regulations. It was also decided to reduce the fine imposed for opening an educational institution in violation of the guidelines.
