The sharp rise in the number of new infections in Corona in Arab and ultra-Orthodox localities continues. This emerges from data published by the Ministry of Health.
In Tira, Kfar Qassem and Modi'in Illit, there have been sharp increases in the number of people diagnosed with the virus. However, in other localities there has been an increase in morbidity rates relative to their size. In the village of Kanna, 40 new corona carriers were diagnosed last week, which constitute 13% of all tests in the locality.
In Ibelin, where about 13,000 residents live, 14% of all tests in the past week were found to be positive. In the locality of Ein Mahel, which also has a population of about 13,000, a quarter of the tests were positive. 48 residents were diagnosed with the virus in the past week.
The city of Tira continues to be one of the major disease hotspots in general and in Arab society in particular, and in the last week 287 people were diagnosed there and 17% of the tests there were found to be positive.
Another locality that recorded a significant increase in the last week is Lakia in the Negev - where 21% of the tests in the last week were found to be positive and 66 people were diagnosed with the virus. 175 were diagnosed in Rahat. There was also an increase in the Druze locality of Beit Jen last week, when 12% of the tests were positive.
In the locality of Emanuel in Samaria, 32% of the tests were positive in the last week, and in the locality of Kochav Yaakov in Benjamin, 21% of the tests were positive. In Bnei Brak, 414 residents (9% of the tests) were diagnosed with the virus last week. In Modi'in Illit, 263 people were diagnosed in the last week, and there are now a total of 595 active patients in the city.
The Ministry of Health also updated that 1,952 people were diagnosed yesterday as verified in 34,042 tests. The number of people diagnosed with the plague in Israel is 108,054. The number of patients in critical condition is 404, and 119 of them need respiratory assistance. The number of deaths as of today stands at 875.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu backed the corona commissioner, Professor Roni Gamzo, against the background of the harsh criticism leveled at Gimzo earlier by Coalition Chairman Mickey Zohar. "Working with him in daily cooperation and calling on everyone to do so," the statement said.
Netanyahu's remarks come against the background of the criticism leveled this morning by the coalition's chairman, MK Miki Zohar (Likud), on Prof. Gamzo, in an interview with the Ynet studio regarding his position and treatment of the issue of worshipers traveling to Uman in Ukraine: "Even if he stays at the airport and prevents the passage, they will find a way to get there." Zohar also attacked Gamzo in relation to the existence of mass demonstrations across the country: "For people who want to exercise the right to demonstrate - it does not interfere."
Zohar referred to the personal letter that Prof. Gamzo sent to the President of Ukraine in which he asked him to ban the celebration of what he called "danger to life." The move drew strong criticism among the ultra-Orthodox parties - and even a demand for Gimzo's resignation from the Minister of Construction and Housing, Yaakov Litzman.
"Since he was appointed by the Prime Minister and is the corona projector, then let's start working to solve Uman's problem. "He will start addressing this issue, because his approach does not solve the problem but harms the public," Zohar said.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government announced in the afternoon that it would ban foreigners from entering its territory due to the Corona disease. Cabinet members voted in favor of extending the closure in the country to combat the corona plague.
Prof. Gamzo welcomed the decision and said that "it is a responsible and correct decision in the spirit of the time, which will preserve the health of thousands of people in Israel and Ukraine." Gamzo added that he believes and hopes that with the return to the routine of the countries of the world it will be possible to pray again in Uman
