Israel is the 30th country in the world with more than 100,000 people infected with corona: About six months after the first carrier of the virus was identified in Israel, in February, the Ministry of Health updated the epidemic data in the country, which shows that Israel now has 100,716 people infected. Yesterday, 1,496 new infections were diagnosed in Israel, and at midnight, another 889 infections were diagnosed today.
Another 11 patients have died since midnight, and the total number of deaths now stands at 809. There are currently 22,122 active patients in Israel, 390 of whom are in critical condition. 116 patients connected to respirators. In the last two days, there has been a decrease in the rate of tests for which the results are positive - and it stands at about 5.4%. Just a few weeks ago the percentage stood at 8%.
According to data from the worldmeters website, which is relied on, among other things, by the Corona Information and Knowledge Center, Israel is ranked 19th in the world in the number diagnosed in relation to the population. Israel is behind Qatar, Bahrain, Chile, Panama, the United States, Peru, Brazil, Armenia and Luxembourg, among others.
Since last Saturday, 1,393 people have been diagnosed in Jerusalem, in Bnei Brak 510, in Modi'in Illit 437, in Ashdod 308, in Tel Aviv 275, in Netanya 239, in Petah Tikva 188, in Rahat 156, in Tira 143, in Be'er Sheva 138, in Haifa 134, in Beit Shemesh 127, in Holon 123, In Rishon Lezion 123, in Kfar Qassem 120, in Sakhnin 117, in Umm al-Fahm 115, in Ramla 104, in Yarka 103 and in Or Yehuda, 100 people have been diagnosed in the last seven days.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided for the time being not to impose a closure at this stage during the holidays as part of measures designed to prevent the corona from continuing to spread. Netanyahu has decided to allow the project leader of the struggle in Corona, Prof. Roni Gamzo, to try to deal with the epidemic through more moderate measures and restrictions. According to the summary, the success of the measures will be examined on September 10.
Netanyahu is convinced that for the time being, Gamzo's policy can be continued, which includes, among other things, the continued development of the epidemiological investigation system and the severance of infection chains, and significant investment in localities and neighborhoods with a significant increase in morbidity.
Gamzo recommended to members of the Corona Cabinet that with the start of the school year on September 1, the implementation of the "traffic light" program will begin, in which the cities and localities will be ranked according to the level of risk (green, orange, red). The plan will be submitted to the Knesset for approval after the regulations are formulated. According to the plan, restrictions will be imposed on gatherings in red localities, including in closed buildings. Torah Judaism chairman Yaakov Litzman Shas chairman Aryeh Deri opposed this, claiming that the number of worshipers in the synagogues was harmed.
Netanyahu and Gamzo will examine the plan ten days after it takes effect and eight days before New Year's Eve. After the exam, Netanyahu and Gamzo will decide whether to continue in the same format or take additional steps, depending on the situation.
According to the outline recommended by Gamzo to the cabinet ministers - and which Netanyahu accepted - the studies will not be opened in cities where there will be high morbidity. A statement from Gamzo said the change in this outline would be made only for medical reasons, with hospitals warning that they were approaching insufficiency and when there would be an increase in morbidity.
The closure outline, which was not accepted at this stage, includes restricting traffic of up to 500 meters in red cities, as well as closing trade, cafes, shopping malls, leisure activities and more. According to this outline, work in the public sector will be in an emergency format and in the private sector at a rate of 30%. However, it is not clear whether all the restrictions that will be imposed will be the same throughout the country.
In addition, Gamzo called for this year not to fly to Uman for fear of mass infection in Korona among thousands of passengers and locals in Ukraine. He said he hopes the leaders of the two countries will stop this year’s trips to Uman.
