Drama in the Israeli political system: In a secret election, the Knesset elected opposition representative MK Karin Elharer (Yesh Atid) as a member of the committee for selecting judges. The plenary rejected the candidacy of MK Tali Gottlieb (Likud). Since Gottlieb was the only candidate of the coalition, she was left without a representative in the committee, which means that in 30 days the Knesset will convene again to elect a representative of the coalition. The results were received after a stormy day in the Knesset.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu convened a morning meeting of the heads of the coalition parties in which he called on them to support the election of MK Karin Elharer (Yesh Atid) to the committee because he fears the explosion of the talks at the President's residence. In exchange, the Likud demanded to unilaterally enact at the summer session of the Knesset the law of evictions and the cancellation of the reason for reasonableness. The Prime Minister asked to continue the talks at the President's House to reach an agreed compromise in the coup d'état.
The ombudsmen law will allow government ministers to use external legal advisors in their representation in legal courts in petitions against government decisions in their field, this is in contrast to the current situation, in which the ministers are obliged to use an ombudsman. The cancellation of the reason for reasonableness is intended to reduce the power of the High Court to cancel an administrative decision of the government on the grounds of unreasonableness.
115 MKs participated in today's vote: Tzvika Vogel from Otzma Yehudit is absent, Yifat Shasha Biton, Elazar Stern, Danny Danon, and Dan Iloz are on delegations. The delay in publishing the results was due to the need to recount the 115 voter forms due to close results. Each member of Knesset was asked to mark 9 names: 2 for the committee for selecting judges, 2 for selecting judges, 3 for selecting kadim, and 2 for selecting kadim from Dhab-Druze. The representatives of the Knesset in the committee for selecting judges and the committee for selecting judges must have one woman in each of them.
According to the results, 58 Knesset members voted for Alharr and 56 were against her appointment, while 15 MKs voted for Gottlieb and 59 were against her. This means that at least 4 members of the coalition supported Alharr because the opposition has 56 MKs and 2 of them are currently on foreign missions "To.
In the current situation, it is not possible to convene the committee for the selection of judges because it does not have a coalition representative. Therefore, within a month, the Knesset will choose a representative for the coalition.

a series of senior officials in the Israeli economy sent a personal letter to the Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, in order to convince him to leave the composition of the committee for the selection of judges intact so that it will also include a representative from the opposition.

The letter is signed by, among others: Harel Wiesel - CEO and owner of Fox Group; Liora Ofer - Chairman and owner of Lisaron; Haim Gabrieli - Chairman of Tnuva; Yitzhak Abarkhan - Chairman of Shufersel; Eitan Bar Zeev - Chairman of the Big Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Africa Properties; Eyal Hankin - CEO of the Azrieli Group; Lior Raviv - CEO of the Isrotel hotel chain; Omri Padan - chairman and owner of Eloniel Ltd.; Eyal Ben Simon - CEO of the Phoenix; Gil Agmon - the controlling owner of Delek Car Company; David Fatal - owner and founder of the Fatal Hotels chain; CEOs of all five major banks in Israel; Adi Sofer Thani - CEO of Facebook Israel; Moti Gutman - CEO of Matrix and others.
In the letter, the top officials in the economy claimed that "We, the Israel Business Forum, which is made up of the heads of the largest companies in the economy and is made up of people from all shades of the political spectrum, are contacting you in preparation for the vote on the appointment of Knesset representatives to the committee to select judges. Israel's economy has been experiencing upheaval for many months.
"We, who see a cross-sectional view of the entire Israeli economy, experience this in all sectors and fear that a change in practice that has existed for years will result in further and irreversible damage to the confidence of investors in the Israeli economy and Israel's ability to emerge from the current crisis. We call on you (Netanyahu - Dr.) to act to maintain the practice of Appointment of an opposition and coalition representative to the committee. These are moments that require statesmanship and a long-term perspective on Israel's welfare and unity," they concluded in the letter.
In the meantime, dozens of Israeli high-tech executives also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu on the same subject, in which they claimed: "We, high-tech entrepreneurs and managers of venture capital funds, are turning to you ahead of the vote on the appointment of Knesset representatives to the committee for selecting judges. We think this is a critical time, which may be A turning point for better or worse in the growing rift among the people that has been shaking the State of Israel since the Justice Minister's plan was presented under your government.
"The accepted practice for many years is that an opposition representative and a coalition representative serve on the committee. From within the coalition headed by you, voices are rising calling to violate the practice and to use the coalition majority in the Knesset to appoint two coalition members. Such a move will finally break the remaining trust in your government's intentions to reach agreed changes in the legal system, will strengthen the fear of breaking the rules of the game due to the politicization of governmental systems, and will cause a huge rift among a broad public anxious for the future of Israeli democracy. The rift that has opened and has been manifested in hundreds of thousands of protesters taking to the streets for months now will deepen and it is not known whether it will be possible to repair it in the future."
High-tech executives also claimed that "in light of the economic and security challenges facing the State of Israel, this is not the time to rock the ship for a momentary 'victory'. This is not the time to examine the already fragile Israeli economy and challenge the support of foreign investors for it."
Among the signatories of the letter from high-tech industry leaders: Erez Shahar, Sivan Shamri Dahan and Boaz Dinti (Kumra Capital), Tal Barnouh (Distrapative), Shlomo Kramer, Shlomo Debrat, Einat Gaz (Papaya Global), Tzachi Weisfeld, Adi Sofer Thani, Ziv Kop and Roy Oron (IGP), Nir Zohar (WIX), Shai Weininger (Lemonade), Micah Kaufman (Faber), Ofer Bengal and Petah Shulman (Radis), Oren Kaniel (Apsplayer), Roy Man and Eran Zinman (Monday), Yaron Galai (Outbrain) , Gal Shaul (Oguri, Shaul Olmert (Piggy), Zohar Lebkowitz, Eyal Niv (Pitango), Aden Shohat (Aleph), Orni Petrushka, Ran Sharig (Daturma) and Tomer Bar Zeev (Iron Source-Unity).
