A 30-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, both Israeli citizens, were seriously injured in a shooting attack on Wednesday evening on Highway 446, between the settlements of Rochin and Peduel in the central West Bank. The attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. and is believed to have been carried out from a passing vehicle, according to the Israeli military.
Emergency medical personnel from Magen David Adom (MDA) provided treatment at the scene before evacuating both victims to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. The woman is reported to be in critical condition, while the man remains in serious but stable condition.
Details of the Incident
The MDA’s 101 hotline in the Yarkon region received a report of the shooting at 10:01 p.m. According to MDA Paramedic Erez Fogel, one of the first responders:
"We left from a nearby settlement and arrived quickly. We saw a private vehicle with gunshot damage on the side of the road. Inside was an unconscious woman with severe gunshot wounds. In the passenger seat, a man, around 40, was fully conscious and had also been shot. He was trying to stop the woman's bleeding."
Both victims were removed from the car and given emergency treatment at the scene. The woman was evacuated in an intensive care ambulance while undergoing resuscitation efforts. The man was transported in another intensive care unit in serious but conscious condition.
Military Response and Manhunt Underway
The IDF has launched an intensive manhunt for the attacker. Roadblocks have been set up across the region, and intelligence and search-and-rescue teams have been deployed. The shooting is being treated as a terrorist attack.
Col. Faiz Fares, newly appointed commander of the Ephraim Brigade, arrived at the scene — on what was his first day on duty. The brigade’s 5035th Battalion is leading the search for the suspect.
Authorities have yet to release information about the identity or affiliation of the shooter.
