132,275 Israelis were diagnosed last week as positive for Corona, 10,354 of them yesterday (Saturday). For comparison, in the week between February 6 and 12, 240,756 positive for the virus were diagnosed in Israel, a decrease of about 45%. If the downward trend continues at a similar pace, it is likely that in the coming days less than 10,000 positive viruses will be diagnosed in Israel in the next few days. At the same time, the coefficient of infection has remained stable over the past three days and stands at 0.67 - indicating a decline in the epidemic.
Data from the Ministry of Health show that in hospitals across the country, 1,848 positive patients are hospitalized for Corona, 832 of them in critical condition. This is a slight increase compared to the number on Saturday night - at that time 822 critically ill patients were hospitalized.
Despite the increase in the number of serious patients there is reason for optimism, as yesterday 75 new patients were hospitalized in critical condition, the lowest daily number since January 12th.
The Ministry of Health did not update this morning the number of deaths, which stands at 9,841. The figures show that at least 15 people, who were positive for Corona, died over the weekend. It is very possible that in the coming days the number of plague victims will reach 10,000.
The number of red localities continues to rise, and as of this morning six defined localities are green. These are Modi'in Illit, Beitar Illit, Umm Batin, the Atrash tribe, the Said and Tifrah tribes. Bnei Brak is close to being green, but is still defined as yellow, like Tamra, Kabul, Jisr a-Zarqa and some other localities.
Meanwhile, the number of active patients continues to decline and stands at 138,824. Data from the Ministry of Health show that there are 7,600 active patients in Jerusalem, and it is possible that tomorrow the beer will turn from red to orange. The data also show that in Tel Aviv 7,589 are positive for the virus, in Haifa 4,788, in Be'er Sheva 4,733, in Petah Tikva 4,399, in Rishon Lezion 3,682, in Netanya 3,439, in Ashkelon 3,152, in Ashdod 2,919, in Holon 2,600, in Ramat Gan 2,594, in Rehovot 2,203, in Kfar Saba Yam 2,049 1,758, Hadera 1,751, Herzliya 1,728, Modi'in Maccabim Reut 1,721, Raanana 1,484, Hod Hasharon 1,380, Rosh HaAyin 1,314, Afula 1,220, Nahariya 1,156, Eilat 1,124, Lod 1,088, Nazareth 1,085 and Bnei Brak 1,073.
In an interview with Ynet, Mr. Prof. Cyril Cohen, an expert in the immune system at Bar Ilan University, said that Israel did indeed appear to be nearing the end of the fifth wave and noted that it recognized a declining trend. "I think we learned that the corona is here to stay, the question is what shape it will take. The omicron you look at as an omicron is a bit of a miracle in some ways because it is very different from what we knew with the alpha and delta," he added. "But that does not mean that now is not brewing some new variant in such a country."
Prof. Cohen also referred to the B.A2 variant that raised concerns in Israel. "There was a study in Japan over the weekend that has not yet been peer-reviewed and found that it may be causing a more serious illness. But it has been tested in hamsters and not in humans," he said. "In the vast majority there are no recurrent infections."
