In the last two weeks, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of deaths as a result of corona complications and the number of patients in critical condition. According to the Ministry of Health, in recent days there have been about 40 deaths from corona every day.

These data are not updated on the Ministry of Health website, and these are only updated retrospectively - after death certificates are received and confirmation that the main cause of death is corona and not other diseases. By comparison, at the height of the third wave in January last year, the death toll reached 60.
The Ministry of Health clarified that "in practice there are between 35-40 deaths in recent days, not all of which death certificates have been issued and the validation process has not been carried out (confirmation that the main cause of death is corona). It is estimated that 95% of the deceased died 'because of' corona."
The National Information and Knowledge Center report published this morning (Tuesday) states that the number of patients in critical condition has increased eightfold in two weeks. Today, 871 corona patients are hospitalized in critical condition, including 245 patients in critical condition. "250 new patients are in critical condition. More than 80% of them are aged 60 and over, 13% are aged 59-40 and the rest at a younger age."
The report further states that “We are at the peak of the wave, with the likelihood of infection being highest. Therefore, it is recommended that the at-risk population and the elderly avoid unnecessary contact until the wave subsides, which is expected soon. "
Since the beginning of the fifth wave, more than a million verified patients have been diagnosed in Israel, constituting 11% of the country's population, while in the last seven days alone, about 522,000 new infections have been diagnosed in Corona - according to the report. At the age of 18, when the percentage of patients was 21.82%, the number of active patients currently stands at more than 470,000.
About 8,670 staff members in the health system are in isolation and absent from work, including 1,225 doctors and 2,725 brothers and sisters. Medical personnel in the hospitals claim that the shortage of staff is well felt, and there are almost no inpatient wards where the workforce is full.
Meanwhile, the report addresses the new isolation outline for students exposed to patients, which is expected to take effect on Thursday. Under the outline, students - vaccinated and unvaccinated - will be exempt from isolation and will undergo two home antigen tests each week. In the schools, it will increase the morbidity in these age groups. "
