Ten days after the first ballistic missile was launched from Yemen toward northern Israel, the Houthis launched another missile at the country. Shortly after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a warning about a potential launch from Yemen, rocket and missile alarms were activated across large parts of northern Israel.
The IDF confirmed that the missile was successfully intercepted before it crossed into Israeli airspace. Despite the interception, explosions were heard as far as central Israel. Magen David Adom (MDA) reported no casualties, except for one individual who sustained minor injuries while heading to a protected area.
In one alarming incident, interceptor fragments pierced the tiled roof of the Zeit kindergarten in Kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek. Shai Regev, Director of Education at the kibbutz, described the close call:
“It's a huge miracle—luckily, it didn’t happen during kindergarten hours. We have 32 children aged 4 to 6 here. Interceptor parts broke through the roof and ceiling. If children had been present, the outcome could have been tragic. It’s a frightening reminder of how close this is to us.”
Nationwide Alarm Coverage and Airport Disruptions
Multiple alarms were reported across the country. In the north, alerts were triggered twice in some areas, including Ha'amakim, Binyamina, Gilboa, Samaria, Upper and Lower Galilee, Acre, Carmel, Haifa, and the Krayot region.
The missile alert also temporarily disrupted Ben Gurion Airport. Several flights were delayed, including an Israir flight from Hungary and a scheduled departure to Rhodes.
Series of Launches Over Recent Days
According to an IDF spokesperson, the most recent launch occurred early Sunday morning and was intercepted outside Israeli territory. At approximately 4:50 a.m., sirens also went off in Idan, Hatzva, Neot HaKikar, Ein Tamar, Ir Ovot, and other communities in the Arava and southern Dead Sea regions.
The previous night, missile alarms were activated in and around Be’er Sheva after another launch from Yemen, which was also intercepted. Earlier last week, alarms were triggered in Haifa, the Krayot, and the Western Galilee—the first such alerts in those regions since the Lebanon ceasefire.
U.S. Diplomatic Influence and Regional Tensions
Israel has so far refrained from publicly commenting on the series of Houthi launches, reportedly at the request of the United States. The U.S. launched a significant military operation in the region approximately six weeks ago. Israel's last known retaliatory strike on Yemen occurred three months ago.
