A huge fire broke out today (Tuesday) in the Jerusalem area, near the village of Shoresh and Road No. 1 (Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Road). Suspected arson.
Following the fire, Shoresh's first line of houses, on Harimon Street, was evacuated - as was the gas station complex and the nearby commercial center. Later, residents of the first line of houses in the locality of Shoeva, on Hahoresh Street, were also evacuated to an absorption center in Kiryat Anavim. In addition, in both localities, electricity was cut off, in order to avoid the danger of electric shock.

Twenty-four firefighters were called to the scene, and eight firefighting planes and another Israeli police helicopter were launched into the air. At the same time, following the fire, the Shoresh interchange on Road 1 was blocked for traffic in both directions. The police asked the drivers to obey the instructions of the police, emergency and rescue forces operating at the scene, and to take alternative routes.
The fire spread over one hundred dunams, and reached a distance of 350 meters from the settlement. No casualties or trapped have been reported so far.
The security officer of the Mateh Yehuda Regional Council, Niv Vaknin, clarified that the fire "did not break out in a tourist area."
"The fire jumps from place to place, because of the weather conditions, every little spark ignites a different area. The fire is deceptive because of the strong winds," Vaknin said, adding that "the residents are really worried, most of them went to work, but the police blocked the roads and prevented access to settlements." .
A week ago, several fires broke out across the country. In a fire that broke out in the area of the Arik Bridge near the Sea of Galilee, vacationers were evacuated from the Jordan estuary to the Sea of Galilee and the Amnon coast, and a total of more than 450 people were evacuated in the incident. At the same time, two more fires broke out in the north of the country, one near the Ramim ridge in the Upper Galilee, and the other in the area of Kfar Aramsha, near the border with Lebanon in the Western Galilee. It was later reported that the fire in the Upper Galilee spread west, not far from Fortress 28, where the Museum of Evil is located.
Earlier that day, a fire broke out at the Goma junction near Kiryat Shmona, where a section of Road 90 was blocked as a result. Large traffic jams were created at the site. Later the fire was extinguished and the road was reopened to traffic.
