The corona cabinet approved to immediately shorten the duration of isolation to one week, subject to two negative corona tests. This is instead of two weeks of isolation without testing or ten days subject to negative testing. Those who improve the insulation are expected to be fined NIS 5,000. The cabinet is now discussing further restrictions, including a "softened" green label that would require people who are not vaccinated or recovering to present a negative corona test at the entrance to enclosed spaces where there are more than 100 people.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said after the decision: "We are setting measures that the public can meet. We expect the entire public to respond fully - both to isolations, to end-of-period tests, to vaccinations and to wearing masks." An examination by the Ministry of Health shows that shortening the isolation to one week leaves 10% of the potential for infection of the virus, assuming that it was tested before the end of the isolation period and was not diagnosed as verified blue. As the isolation period shortens, the chance of discovering symptoms late increases: the potential for infection decreases at the end of ten days to 5.3% if the person is tested, and at the end of 14 days - to 1.7%. Despite the possible increase in morbidity, the decision is expected to increase public responsiveness to stay in isolation.
The Ministry of Health does not want to approve the green mark immediately, but to prepare for its activation in ten days, in accordance with the regulation of rapid testing systems. However, sources involved in the expected discussion estimated that the chances of the move being approved are not high. "Ministers will be happy to ease and shorten the isolation, but at this stage will be reluctant to impose new restrictions on the public in the form of the softened green mark," said one of them.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid went into isolation after one of the advisers who was with him on the flight back from Belgium was positively diagnosed with Corona. Lapid's corona test was negative.
Hours before the cabinet meeting, senior Health Ministry officials met with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and decided to recommend the introduction of the softened character and shorten the isolation for the week - at the request of Bennett and Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz, who ordered the consequences of the move. The ministry also wanted to discuss the enforcement of the isolation, with the intention of expanding the enforcement system through the police and local authority inspectors.
There is a continuing downward trend in the coefficient of infection, which indicates the number of people that each patient infects on average, when in mid-June it stood at 2.5 and today it stands at 1.27.
