The Ministry of Health updated Friday that 2,479 people were diagnosed in Corona last week - a figure that is about half the week before, when 5,011 people were diagnosed with the virus. This is the lowest figure since June 2020. The total number of people infected in Israel since the outbreak is 833,707.
Also, 56 people died this week - after 93 people died last week. This is the lowest figure since November. The total death toll from the virus is now 6,220.

In the last day, 331 people have been diagnosed with corona carriers. Out of 35,768 tests, the positive rate is 1%. The test data and their results are not final and may change in subsequent updates from the Ministry of Health.
The number of patients in critical condition decreased by 102, and stands at 368 compared to 470 patients in the previous week. The number of respirators has dropped, and now stands at 192 - a decrease of 20 people compared to the previous week, when the number stood at 212.
The number of active patients also decreased: there are 6,581 as of this morning, a decrease of 5,127 from the previous week, when the figure was 11,708. Also, 525 are hospitalized - a decrease of 169 from the previous week, just like the previous week.
According to the Ministry of Health, so far 5,252,718 Israelis have been vaccinated in the first dose against the corona virus, including 4,804,891 who also received the second dose.
Exactly one year ago, Israel entered the first closure as a result of the corona crisis, after a total of 5,500 verified viruses were discovered throughout the country, along with 15 dead. Since then, Israel has known two more closures, more than 800,000 patients, almost 6,200 dead, more than five million vaccinated and the infiltration of four different variants into the country.
Today, since the vaccination campaign began to show its signs, the data have been very encouraging, and have even surprised senior health officials. The coefficient of infection is low and approaches 0.5, the number of severe patients reached less than 500, with 90% of those patients not completing the vaccination process, and mortality reduced by tens of percent.
"I leave this year with the feeling that we have managed to overcome a very difficult event," says Levy.
Medically - we managed the crisis in a respectful way. There was always room for improvement and there will always be those who complain. I leave with a sense of pride and great satisfaction from our health care system and what they have managed to do. The mortality rate is not higher than expected, the deaths are mainly among the complex patients who had background diseases and whose bodies are less resistant to coronary shock. "
"We had to react faster to Ben Gurion Airport - it brought a lot of morbidity. We opened the sky with great desire, we defined red and green countries and I think maybe we should have closed Ben Gurion Airport faster, probably with the flights from Dubai that resulted in high morbidity. "
