2,393 corona patients have died in Israel since the beginning of the year - 1,459 of them in January and 934 in February. There are more than 40 deaths every day. It should be emphasized that the data for the month ended yesterday (Sunday) are not final, as late data on deaths are still coming to the Ministry of Health. There is no doubt that the extensive vaccination campaign is the significant factor in the decrease in the number of deaths from corona in Israel.
An analysis of data from the Ministry of Health shows that in the first half of last month, an average of 40 patients died every day. In the second half of January, the number rose to 53 corona patients who died each day. The peak was on January 24, when 79 corona patients died a day.
In the first half of February there was a decrease in the number of corona patients who died and their number was about 42 on average, ie a decrease compared to the second half of January, but still a higher figure than the first half of last month. In the second half of February there was a further and more significant decrease in the number of deaths. From February 15 to 28, an average of 25 patients died daily.
However, this is still a very high number compared to December - when 488 corona patients died in Israel, an average of close to 16 patients a day. In November, according to data from the Ministry of Health, 313 patients died - an average of more than 10 per day and in October 957 - an average of 32 deaths per day.
The data show that there has been a sharp decline not only in the number of coronary deaths, but also in the number of patients whose condition is serious. Currently, 742 patients in critical condition are hospitalized across the country - the lowest number since January 2.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, on January 26, there were 1,199 corona patients in Israel who were in a serious condition and after a very moderate decrease until February 7, there was a more significant decrease in the number of seriously ill patients hospitalized in Israeli hospitals. This is a significant decrease of 43% from the peak. Here, too, the effect of the vaccination campaign is noticeable on the decrease in morbidity.
However, due to the high immunization rate among those aged 60 and over, compared to lower immunization rates at younger ages, the picture of patients in critical condition has changed.
According to updated data this morning, 57.1% of patients with a severe condition are over 60 years old. The data also show that 20.2% of the severe patients - that is, one in five - are 50 to 59. 10.7% of the severe patients are in their 40s and 7.4% in their 30s. That is, close to 40% of severe patients are between 30 and 59 years old.
In addition, 17 young people in their 20s are hospitalized in the hospitals, eight young women, three girls and two boys, as well as two girls under the age of nine - all in critical condition according to the Ministry of Health.
Today, the Information and Knowledge Center announced that the coefficient of infection - which indicates the spread of the virus - has risen to 1. About two weeks ago, the coefficient was 0.79.
Data from the Ministry of Health show that the infection rate in Arab society is 1.16, in the general society 0.96 and in the ultra-Orthodox 0.82. In ultra-Orthodox and Arab society, there is a sharper increase in the coefficient of infection.
However, most of the new infections are young people who do not develop a serious illness and therefore there has been a significant decrease in recent weeks in the number of serious patients. According to the data, 76.7% of those infected yesterday are under 39 and 5.2% are over 60. In fact, 43.4% of those diagnosed yesterday are under 19 - whose chances of developing a serious illness are very low.
