Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this evening (Wednesday) that the public vaccination campaign for Corona will begin on December 27. At a press conference he convened with Health Minister Yuli Edelstein after a discussion with professionals, he said that Israel is prepared to give 60,000 vaccines daily.
In his remarks, Netanyahu noted that he had instructed the Minister of Health and his office to promote the "Green Passport" project for vaccinators, in which relief would be given to those who would agree to receive the vaccine. "It will change the whole picture," he said. "It's not just an operation to provide a shot of encouragement - we are bringing an end to the epidemic."
The press conference took place after the first shipment of corona vaccines landed in Israel this morning. The shipment numbers 3,000 to 4,000 Pfizer vaccine packets, which were removed from Ben Gurion Airport in a special operation in preparation for their distribution throughout the country. "Another shipment will arrive tomorrow," Netanyahu promised. "I have been working on this with the Minister of Health and his staff for months."
He reiterated that he would be the first in the country to be vaccinated, adding: "We may have to tighten some of the restrictions in the coming days, which we will discuss tomorrow at the cabinet meeting. Also, all Israeli citizens will be vaccinated. "
Health Minister Yuli Edelstein announced during the statement that "subject to two tests, it will be possible to be released from isolation after ten days. In the coming days we will announce when it will start. This is good news for the economy and citizens." He added that "the few vaccines that were supposed to reach us, have grown to a quantity that will be enough for hundreds of thousands of citizens in the coming weeks. Millions more vaccines will soon arrive here."

The first shipment of corona vaccines landed

The first shipment of corona vaccines landed on Wednesday in Israel. With the arrival of the shipment, which includes between 3,000 and 4,000 vaccines created by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Health Minister Yuli Edelstein spoke at Ben-Gurion Airport.
Netanyahu has stated that he will be the first Israeli citizen to be vaccinated, to serve as an example to the public. "I have served as Israeli prime minister for quite a few years, and this is one of the most exciting moments," Netanyahu said. "This is a holiday for Israel."
"It is not obvious that small Israel, which has a total of nine million citizens, receives the vaccines with the other large countries," the prime minister added. "From here it will move to refrigerators in the best refrigerated warehouses in the world. Let's get going."
Edelstein also greeted, and said things in a similar spirit. "This is a holiday for the State of Israel because we are seeing the end," said the health minister, who emphasized: "Our work does not end here, but begins now. Our goal is for most Israeli citizens to receive the vaccines as soon as possible."
Those who will take care of receiving the vaccines from the moment they land in Israel will be Maman Group teams. The vaccines arrive in Pfizer's refrigerators, and from there are transferred to the group's refrigerators in Shoham. From there, the vaccines will be moved throughout the country.
Later this week, a Boeing 777 cargo plane from United Airlines is expected to land in Israel, with a significantly larger amount of vaccines on it. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of vaccines are expected to arrive.
On Tuesday, the director general of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Hezi Levy, informed the directors of the health funds that the vaccination campaign against the corona virus will begin in about ten days. HMOs have recently begun preparations for a comprehensive immunization campaign against the virus, in which about 80,000 people will be vaccinated daily.
The first wave of vaccines, intended for medical teams, is expected to include tens of thousands of doses. The FDA is expected to receive approval for the vaccine on Thursday, and next Sunday the Ministry of Health will probably also approve the use of the vaccine in Israel. On the target date - December 20, medical teams will start vaccinating, and on December 26, the general population will be vaccinated, while the IDF, IPS and nursing homes will conduct the vaccination operation independently, and possibly the police as well.
The distribution of vaccines among the HMOs will be in proportion to the size of the HMO: Clalit, the largest HMO, aims to reach 40,000 vaccinated per day; Maccabi Health Services has 25,000 vaccines, and the United and National Funds will receive 8,000-7,000 vaccines.

The HMOs are also preparing to provide vaccines in the branches and for designated centers: 700 centers will be established in Clalit and Maccabi will have 70 immunization points throughout the country. Apart from the HMOs, the Ministry of Health intends to divide the shipment between hospitals, which vaccinated their staff, and the nursing homes, where the vaccinations will be carried out by MDA staff.
