Between March-October died 9% more Israelis than in that period in 2019

Between March-October this year, 2,586 more Israelis died than in these months in 2019. That means this year there are 9% more deceased. This is according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, which is published at noon (Thursday). The CBS said that the difference compared to 2019 is mainly in the months of August to October, when 2,207 corona patients died in Israel - 960 of them in October alone.
The CBS added that the total mortality rate from the end of March - when the first deaths in Israel were recorded from the corona - until the end of October was 10.4% higher than the expected mortality in 2020.
A special report, entitled An increase in total mortality in Israel during the corona period, states that in the first three months of 2020, total mortality was low compared to the previous three years, 2017 to 2019.
In April-May, mortality was slightly higher than in previous years, but from July, and especially from August, mortality this year was significantly higher. In September, the CBS found, the mortality rate was 19% higher than the mortality rate this month in 2019 (and since September the average of the last three years), and in October the rate was 24% higher than in 2019 (and 21% compared to Average 2019-2017).
And what is the reason? This is obvious of course. The CBS explained that the increase in mortality is very close to the known mortality rate from the corona virus.
The CBS also examined the ages of the deceased. The data show that in March to October, 24,063 people aged 70 and over died, compared with 21,645 in these months in 2019, a difference of 2,418 Israelis. In these months, 2,054 residents aged 70 and over died - 8.5% of all deceased At this age.
The CBS also found that 81% of all corona virus deaths were aged 70 and over. 57% of corona deaths were men, compared with 43% women. The data also show that 9% of men who died in March-October were corona patients, compared with 6.9% of women.
The CBS also examined the deaths by population group. According to the data, by the end of October, 2,076 Jews and others and 456 Arabs had died from the Corona virus. The mortality rate of Jews and others from the virus was 1.6 times higher than that of Arabs. That the Jewish population is older.
The CBS report states that corona virus deaths explain almost all of the excess mortality, in all ages - 94% of the excess is explained by the Corona virus. But here, too, there is a difference between the age groups: by the age of 69 the number of deaths from the corona virus is greater than the excess of deaths. Over the age of 70 the death toll is greater than the number of deaths known from the corona virus. A possible explanation for this figure is deaths from the virus that are unknown or from an indirect effect of the epidemic on the aggravation of the disease for other reasons.
